I paid for a "NEW" car.....with the damage and subsequent repair work that will ensue, to me, it is no longer a "NEW" car. Hopefully, I won't need a lawyer, but there's plenty around.

BTW, I trust this car dealership to do what's right and have bought two other vehicles though them. This damage was not thier fault...but it sure isn't MY fault and I won't accept a used car. I think the pompous attitude of this general sales manager who didn't bother to call me...I called him late this afternoon...leaves the bad taste in my mouth...the don't give a sheet attitude.

$63K is alot of cash for a car for meand if I'm keeping it for twenty years, I don't want my passenger side fender rusting out, color not matching and possible fitment issues putting it all back together, etc.

The point of this thread is I don't want someone else buying this without this knowledge....thanks

Thanks for the warning! I do wonder why you are worried about the $500 rebate when you paid in full over $60k sight unseen

Don't blame you one bit for backing out of that deal. You don't pay $60k for a new car, that's been damaged, repainted, and etc. There really should be a ton of other ZL1's out there for you.

$500 is $500. Pretty sure that's how he sees it.

Im not reading all the comments but this is how it works

Until you drive the car off the lot the transaction is not complete.. the dealership can drag its feet but it CANNOT refuse to give you your money back or cancle the deal..

They dont want you to know this. But its fact.

I just went through a similar situation and my result was much better. Sorry to hear about yours. Best of luck in your hunt for this beast.

Sorry to hear about this. You can definitely find the same car for a better deal (more than the $500 rebate) if you look further from home. I went 11 hours from home but saved about 4 grand.

If a store delivers you a damage frigde or stove, they will replace it without a problem if you refuse the delivery.... So at worst get them to replace the car for a new one without damages....same car that is.

GM replaced my 2006 G6 GTP 6 speed manual because of the transmission gears 2 and 3 was so hard to shift. Took me some 6 months and just before taking them to court they did swap the car for a exactly same model but automatic. At no cost for me. Thay just swapped the car infos on the original contract, I did'nt loose the first payments and I got 6 + more months of warrenty.

You should not accept that car. Untill it's not registered and plated under your name it's not YOUR car.

Keep writhing on different web sites and make yourself a case. Tell your dealer you're doing that. GM and the dealership will follow you on the WEB and they are affraid of that. Trust me I did it and it worked. At the time I was on g6performance.com and GM admitted that they knew my whole story by follwing what I wrote. I never used a lawyer, did it by myself.
Good luck!

Despite popular misconception, there is no federal cooling-off rule for automobile purchases. Check with your state/local laws though. You may have to put something in writing, etc.

Quote:

Also exempt from the Cooling-Off Rule are sales that involve:
  • real estate, insurance, or securities;
  • automobiles, vans, trucks, or other motor vehicles sold at temporary locations, provided the seller has at least one permanent place of business;
  • arts or crafts sold at fairs or locations such as shopping malls, civic centers, and schools.
FTC rules reference here:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles...s-cooling-rule

If the contract is signed, you MAY not have an out, legally. If the dealer will give you a refund, that'd be up to him, but otherwise you got YOUR car in limbo on HIS lot and it could sit there until YOU come and get it. Go get some professional counsel on this. Like someone said, this might be the most expensive $500 you've ever saved.

This is precisely why no matter what, I don't sign for a car until I can check it out with my own eyes.

Good luck with this.
