1LE Matte Hood & CarPro Perl
In my short two weeks of ownership of the 1LE, which I love so far, I've been messing around with the matte wrap on the hood. I figured worst case I plan on redoing it in 3m 1080-s12 (satin) anyway, so why not.
I've tried the Adam's Matte Detailer, which is fine but only goes so far in removing stains & blemishes. I then tried Adam's Matte Detailer which to be honest I was underwhelmed with. The only way I could get it to finish off nicely was to cake it on, wasn't a fan. It looked fine though. Last night I decided to start over and test something new, something cheaper that I have for other purposes rather than buying something for just the hood over and over again. So after a bath in IPA 50/50, I brought out the CarPro Perl diluted 1:5 with water. I knew it would give it a sheen and more "satin" look, which I was OK with. The added bonus, at 1:5 it's cheap and super easy to apply. How long does it last, I'll let you know. Good idea? Bad idea? I'm not sure yet, but I was/am willing to replace the wrap so thought why not!

I like it. Granted, I have no idea what IPA 50/50 is.

I would probably go no higher than 20% IPA and you should get the same effect.

i would have thought the same, but i checked even with 3M and many vinyl care documents stating a 50/50 dilution with 99% iso.

Cool, if they recommend it, great! I am always scared to go much higher than 20% with isopropyl.

Looks good! How many applications to get it to finish uniform?

Looks good but I bet it streaks with a hard rain. I use and love Perl but my experience is doesn’t hold up to rain...

Is it possible to find a sheet of "3m 1080-s12" that is around the right size for the hood? I could only find huge rolls of the stuff.

so follow up on this, i wouldn't suggest it. it doesn't really stay even for long and i had to get the perl off.
will end up going satin 3m 1080-s12 to make life easier.
