I still own my first Z28. It has been in the family since the early 90's. It is an 83 Z28 with t-tops and crossfire injection. I love this car but it has had a rough life (before me). I am in the process of putting it back into good condition body wise. The whole power train has been swapped and the car is pretty wicked. It is much faster than my old 2012 2SS car and I bet it would give my 2017 a run for its money.
Currently it is sporting a LT1/T56 swap from a 96 trans am with a bunch of boltons. It also has 4.10 gears and a posi. It also sports hydroboost brakes, 12" brakes front and rear, and 02 trans am seats. I call it the GM parts bin. You would amazed at how easily you can take parts from other GM vehicles and put them on a third gen. It is not a good picture, but the car is in storage. |

My 1st Z28 was a 1982 305 4 barrel 4 speed Saginaw transmission. I special ordered it from a dealer and it took about 4 months to get. It was a no option car and was delayed because they ran out of T-10 4 speeds and had to substitute another trans to get the cars built. The 2nd was a 1987 IROC Z Z28 with the 305 TPI 5 speed. It had a few issues when bought brand new but I kept it until 1998 when I got a new 1998 Camaro SS. It had been driven hard and had 100,000 miles on it when I got the '98.

Here's mine, it was a 1978 dark blue-green metallic w/green stripes and light green interior. It was a rare combo as most of the green ones were optioned with gold trim. It was modded with an LT1 bored to 358CID. Internals were all from the GM high performance catalog with the exception of a custom-grind hydraulic cam from Crower (a concession to ease of maintenance on an AC car, it gets friggin hot in Texas). The crown jewels were a set of angle-plug heads a friend sold too cheap. It had an automatic with a 2K stall converter (no bottom-end power) but it would pull hard through 7K. Definitely not a 1/4 mile car but damn what top-end. Aero sucked on that car and the front-end would get light before it ran out of motor. I miss this uncivilized beast.

I was walking home during the energy crisis and spotted Darni's Z/28 1969 for sale for $1800, she was tired of putting gas into it. I went home and said hey dad there is a Camaro for sale down the street that I want. He said bring it up and let me have a look. I walked back down the street and Darni gave me the keys (different times then), drove it into the driveway, dad looked out the picture window and said OK... there ya go hugger Orange... I would cruz Wikiki 3 nights a week in the pumpkin picking up tourist chicks... My 440 Dart was WAY WAY faster... but not exactly a chick magnet. Oh after gradschool I sold it to pay for school for $18000 yep 10x what dad paid for it.

My buddy bought this '79 from a widow for $2000. It has 41,000 miles and all the numbers match. The engine is seized. He is planning on putting an engine in it. it is otherwise in pretty nice shape. Couldn't get better pics because ti was up on the rack!
