Rock guards, yay or nay?

Been thinking of installing some, just not sure if they work vs aesthetics.

I put on the zl1 add ons. Totally overpriced, but they work. Paint behind the wheels stays pretty clean so I assume they are preventing some rock damage. They blend in fine with the car looks wise. If you do install them, take a black sharpie marker and blacken the side of the adhesive foam tape before you mount them. The edge of the white tape shows between the wheel well and the guard. I touched mine up afterwords.

Yay. I have the RPI Designs premium (thicker) black plastic flap style mud guards, they work fine and and IMO also go well with the styling of the car. Very similar zo the ZL1 addons offering. The top of the front ones can be adjusted a bit, and I made the stick out a bit further to stop even more stones and junk.

The OEM body color splash guards are nice (had them on another Camaro), but the protection they offer is very limited, plus the front ones have to be riveted in place, which makes them a bit harder to install and replace.

Yay.

I have the RPI ones (front only, as you can buy just the front) on my SS) Barely noticeable, and totally worth it. I did have to add some automatic double sided tape to what they had included so that it laid against the fender better.

Yay.

I got the GM pre-painted molded splash guards. I like the look better than the mud flap type. No doubt the mud flap type are more effective because they block more area. But the molded guards are certainly better than no guards.

I also recommend replacing the small factory PPF in front of the rear wheels with a piece that extends to the panel seam. That area is the most vulnerable to rock chips by far.

Yay

I have the zl1 addons front and rear and it was one of my first installs. I live in south Louisiana so there is always a dirty road or even a gravel road to my dads house and after one trip there to show him the car I ordered them. You don’t even notice them unless you are looking for them.

ZL1 here too, wide sticky tires, they are a must.

Fronts went on per instructions, rear I went with longer spacers and matching bolts because I didn't like how it was sitting cupped in behind bumper cover, i like flush, square to wheel appearance. They work, keep most of rocks n crap off the side of the car.

OEM and they look just fine (and work). After 120,000 miles mine would be beat up - but there is no wear showing behind any of the tires or " down stream".

I was on the fence initially about getting the rock-guards as well, function vs form. After getting my car on the lift and looking up close I am glad I installed the rock-guards, the amount of rock chips I had on my car with only 750mi was incredible! I'll recommend them to everyone now.

Yes. I have the color matched OEM. Either one is worth it.

Recently ordered the OEM "splashguards" from shopchevyparts.com, for my son's RS, (on sale with additional 5% off), painted in the Garnet Red tintcoat. Look great. I wasn't really thinking about rocks as much as keeping road film off lower panels and the great looks. My friend who recently bought the 17 GRT 2SS liked them so much he has already ordered a set for himself.
