The magic of E85 octane & meth temp control.

From what I understand you can’t even get it in NJ?

There are a couple of stations in NJ that have E85. The closest one to me is like 30 minutes away, definitely not worth it for me since I'm keeping the stock fuel system for now.

Wonder what I've i made this exact same setup + Ported MSD and headers..... Would it be to much, requiring me to go with less boost?

Also, how about LT4 everything but without the meth... you think the e85 + meth combo is necessary?

E85 and meth isn't needed unless you plan on running crazy boost IMO.

Still thinking of buying that kit we discussed in PM earlier?

I would think the ported intake wouldn't do much as far as raising power, but it might make the transition of air into the cylinder easier, and the headers the same on the out going air. Just bolting both on wouldn't make power, but they might allow you to allow you to run more boost (as the increased air efficiency will lower boost some).

My tuner said if we had headers on my car, he would have pursued tuning it with the 13-14lb setup we started with.

For reference - when we tuned we mapped on 91 pump gas first, and Carl simply turned on the Alky system with factory settings and two 10# nozzles with strait meth and we picked up 70hp. We were in the 610s at the time.

Yup, I have been talking with him for a while, I spent the money but saving up again hopefully I'll still have time.

I'd like to run full e85 obviously would be upgrading to LT4 hpfp and inyectors.... I really wouldn't want to go Meth... not looking forward to be meth dependent. E85 on the other hand I literally have a station 2 blocks away that I cross in-front of every day to go to work... that its not an issue for me.... I've been on E for over 30K miles.... not looking forward to $65 a tank fill-up every 3 days (if i'd go back to 93).

Very insteresting, albeit a stressful read. I may have missed it but, how was the intercooler and bypass setup like? That’s one reason I keep looking back at ProCharger. Centrifugal systems keep my attention because I don’t want a lot of low end grunt, like what I see from positive displacement systems.

I just went out Sunday on 50 degree roads and pulled a 3.3 0-60 first try with the new Whipple setup on a 20" DR. There is still a ton left in it, but my point is the car was surprisingly easy to launch.

On these torque based ECU systems you can manipulate the power curve via tuning the driver demand table and some other areas. Not to mention the Whipple 2.9 doesn't hit as hard down low as the smaller PD units. I am not saying to go Whipple because it's the best, but the all low end grunt talk is old mythology. This Whipple will make power clear on out to past 6500rpm easy on the SLB. My dyno pull was cut off at 6400 and it was still making power.

I understand. What you’re saying isn’t lost on me but, I should also disclose that I refuse to run drag radials. More specifically to your point, the near instantaneous boost is what I would likely construe as the copious amounts of low end torque. As it stands currently, my car is useless on the low end, with just full bolt ons. Granted, again, I’m not using drag radials but, I’m also tuned by a very reputable tuner and despite our best efforts, my car still remains a bit off. There’s really no in between, unfortunately. As I mentioned in another thread, under light or moderate throttle, my car feels like it’s dragging a boat anchor. As soon as it hits about 3200rpm, it pulls hard and suddenly. Whereas under heavy throttle in the same range, it’s like my tires are covered in oil, it’s immediate and violent wheel spin. We’ve looked at the torque tables, traction control settings, cam timing, etc., it just keeps doing it. I’m thinking of just circumventing a lot of this and going with boost in the hopes to perhaps get a fresh set of eyes on the car and hopefully, get it to run right.

You are going to hit some boost instantly regardless if it's a Centri or PD(I have owned both). The difference is you might only hit 4-5lbs on the hit of the throttle then build 2-3lbs towards peak rpm with a P1sc. With the Whipple I hit 7-8psi then builds to 9 peak.

The 555r is actually a very nice streetable tire imo. Its all around better then the stock run flat in ride, comfort, noise, and dry traction. If you drive your car daily rain or shine, then it might not be the best idea but they do ok in the rain if you keep your speed down.

The intercooler and the belt drive system are the two reasons I went to the Vortech/ECS setup. They really don't have a "stage II" intercooler, they use the same one between the base kit and the 2000cfm kit.

It runs frame rail to frame rail, core support to the trans cooler (its larger than the radiator)

As far as the tune on meth - it is NOT "meth dependent", I have plenty of fuel supply to support the system on E85 or Premium, we are just using the meth for temp control and a little octane. In 15 dyno pulls we used maybe a half a quart to 3/4 quart of methanol.

Thanks for the breakdown and image, DorkMissle. You certainly achieved a nice number with your setup. I won’t be running methanol or E85, however, just pump 93. I’d certainly like to keep boost under 10 psi, even with aftermarket pistons.

KingLT1, perhaps I didn’t explain the tire situation well enough but, I refuse to compromise my handling capabilities for straight line acceleration. I know there is going to be an absolute peak somewhere in the quest for more power while retaining tires designed for twisties. I still think many of my woes are tuning related so, I think it’s a matter of tracking another tuner down and explaining to them what was tried and where we left off—then hoping for the best. But that’s going to have to wait til later on this year.

I had ECS install my kit themselves, with their tune I hit 555hp and 528tq at the wheels on an otherwise stock car aside from deleting the secondary cats(not really a mod for horsepower). 93 octane, stock fuel system, the regular 8# pulley.
