Engone Oil 5W30 Dexon2 ??

Hello,
I'm driving 1000km and I'm going to change the oil. But the is a question, what oil. In the manual for the Camaro 2018 6.2L is written 5W30 Dexon1 oil. GM oil 5W30 Dexon2 is commonly sold here (EU). Depending on what I read, there is the only difference between Dexon1 and Dexon2 in the additive. Dexon2 should be oil for sale in the EU (modified for ecology).

That should probably not be a problem?

The second question is really 5W30 enough for these motors? Not too infrequent? Too low viscosity? Will not oil degrade too much with temperature? Still, the engine works with more power.

Thanks for the anwers.

Caveat: I am no expert on oil at all so I'll share what I have read by other forum members or automotive article.

It has been mentioned more than once that the additives in the Dexos 2 oils help control carbon build-up when used with direct injection engines. I used Dexos 1 with my last oil change. I am considering going to Dexos 2.

As to the viscosity question - I chose to run what GM recommends which is 5W-30 for everyday street use. GM did thousands of hours of testing for the LT1 engine in all weather conditions and temperatures. I can't think of why I'd go against what is factory recommended for viscosity.

Thank you for your response. It certainly sounds reasonably and somehow also coincides with what I think. We'll see what else to say.

Yes, hopefully more people will reply. I'd like to hear more about Dexos2 as well.

On a personal note I'm looking forward in May to a visit of Prague. It will be my first time to that part of the world.

Yes, Prague is the total tourist trap. There is a beautiful, interesting architecture. Definitely worth a visit.

Before visiting I definitely recommend to take a look at these tourist tips !! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt7...VQi7vRbc1bNjJA

PS: Prague is an attraction, but I also recommend to visit the Moravia. For example, the reservoir of Nové Mlýny.

Personally, there are so many people in Prague. In Moravia, you really have a rest. Beautiful countryside, castles, vineyards, wine. And he's also drinking the most. At end, typical Moravian Joke...

"From the daily Prague man in Moravia:

Monday - I drink with Moravians.
Tuesday - I almost died.
Wednesday - again I drink with the Moravians.
Thursday - I regret that I did not die on Tuesday."

Edit: Pictures in video are from Nové Mlíny:

Thanks for the travel tips. I will check out those videos. And yes the wife and I will be some of "those tourists" who clog up the streets as our visit to Prague is an extension of a Viking tour where we added on a couple of extra days as part of a Danube river cruise. At least we are helping out your economy in the process! Thanks again for the info.

Now back to the topic of oil. Come on forum members - do tell what you know about Dexos2.

I use Dexos2 oil and am now located in a "Euro-SPEC" country.

Since the Temps are relatively warm here, mainly from mid-May to End-October,
~ 95-105, I use 40 weight (5W40) as GM recommends in the manuals of Corvettes with the same LT1 engine, from 2018 onward.
Even the oil fill cap now reads "Mobil 1 0W40"

Since nothing has changed in the LT1 and LT4 engines from 2016, I believe that everyone with an LT1 or LT4 can also safely use a 40-weight oil daily driven.
My favorite brands, which are also officially "Dexos 2" certified are: Motul 8100-XClean, Valvoline MST formula, Castrol Magnatec or Edge FST

Okay, I just found out at some Opel Forum that dexos2 is only for Diesel engines.

I'm starting to get confused. What is the difference between:

1) Dexos1
2) Dexos1 Gen2
3) Dexos2

Dexos 2 is for both diesel and gas motors.
Just google it and you’ll read for days.

I cant find Dexos 1 anywhere, it's all dexos 2. I bought Mobil 1 5w-30 dexos 2 and on the back it says "GM Dexos 1 Gen 2 license...", so I guess Dexos 2 is the new replacement for Dexos 1? Also on the front of the container it says " for use in gasoline engines" so I guess it's not just for diesels as some have mentioned.

Come on people, search and you will find.

Dexos 1 gen2 is not dexos 2.

Yes that's correct, thank you! I just looked closely at the front symbol to the left of Dexos and it's not a 2 just looks like it. There's a small 1 in the lower right of the symbol and in small print says "Approved Gen2". Geez Too confusing!

Dexos 1 is gone....replaced by Dexos 1 gen2 then the Dexos 2 esp (emission system protection) oils were introduced just recently.

Here is a quick search result.

In 2010, GM introduced its dexos1™ oil specification, then upgraded it in 2015. The more stringent dexos1 2015 standard, also referred to as dexos1 Gen 2, sets forth the requirements for developing oils that can be used with today’s advanced engine technologies. Approved dexos1 oils will be mandatory for both factory fills and service fills starting with 2017 and 2018 GM models. Oils formulated to meet dexos1 specifications are also backwards-compatible with older engines.
