Does track-cross count in here? I had some fun out at Summit Point on Sunday, the lesser known Shenandoah circuit there is a bit intimidating with all of it's concrete walls so close to the track but it's a lot of fun! And it has a to scale replica of the Karussell from the Ring! Enjoy!

Went to the first event of the year here in SoCal. Rn CAM-C as normal. First time running on the new wheels and tires. Apex EC7 in 19x10.5 and running on Federal 595RS-RR in 275/35R19. I would have liked to been running wider tires but this is the widest they make them in a 19. on the 10.5 rim, they are a little wider than the 285 SC3 on the 10" rim. I think they provided more grip when cold that the SC3 does but I don't have a direct comparison. The PDR data shows max lateral g in the two flat ground sweepers at 1.31 and 1.26. So they stick fairly well. Just wish they had a 295 or 305/30R19. Anyway, here is my video from my quickest run. Critique away, I'm still learning and getting comfortable with the car.

You sir need some 305/30/19 RE71Rs! You are doing yourself a disservice by running anything else!

Yes and no, For me, autocross is a social event to be with friends and to try to get the most out of what I have. I'm not going to nationals, I don't care about a club trophy, I didn't prep to the class either. The only modification is the 19" wheels. While I am slower than I would be on RE71Rs, the whole set of Federals cost $580. Now, if the tires turn out to be garbage and wear out in two more events, I'll look into RS4s or maybe the RE71Rs or go back to 20s with the SC3.

In that case, I'd pick tires for the big tracks and let autocross run times fall where they may. But I'd definitely be looking wider than 275.

I was technically the fastest of the 4 drivers in the green one but unless the cone did a miracle tumble....well you hear my reaction. My car is 100% stock, not even an alignment. I can’t believe how this car handled from the factory.

I've run a 275/40 and now a 265/40 on Apex 18x10 wheels for my V6 1LE. I bought these sizes because I got low prices and knew fit would be no problem. But I seriously considered a 285/35 or a 295/30 or 295/35, and may get one of those sizes next. I suspect the wider size is nothing but positive for autocross, even for a V6. Anybody disagree?

I think you should be running 195/75 at the next autocross. I hear it works great.

From my understanding, wider is going to be better in respect to grip so long as you have a wide enough wheel to support the tire, and avoid pinch. 285's are definitely within the acceptable limits of a 10 in wheel. 295's might be pushing it slightly but all 295's i've looked at list a 10 in wheel as an acceptable wheel width.

305's seem to be the point where pinch becomes as issue with 10in wheels, but there are a few people on here who are running them. I had my first taste of running 305's on a front 10in wheel, and even with limited experience was able to feel the sidewall roll over. I felt like i had to be more predictive in my actions to allow the sidewall time to roll and set. I'm still new to the autox game, so bear in mind most of what I'm saying is a regurgitation of what i've been reading.

The only other thing to keep in mind would be when sticking with the same aspect ratio, and going wider the tire diameter will increase, which tends to be a negative, as it leads to a taller overall gear ratio.

Thanks,
Brian

Well done to the 1LE drivers this past weekend, couldn't quite edge out the M2 but very close.

Congrats to jwisjw for taking the win in S3 running ESP at the Crows Landing ProSolo And his wife took the win in L1 running ESP.

Fontana ProSolo is this coming weekend and I'm sure to be bringing up the rear of the pack in CAM. I can't do a drag launch to save my life. But it will be an experience.
