Not really... In my case I had a budget I wanted to stay in.. So for me, it was a choice of a Camaro 2SS or a Camaro 1SS ILE. I did not want to spend the $$ for a 2SS 1LE. So a comparison of a 2SS to a 1SS ILE is what I did.

You live in Michigan and no desires to track? Not sure why you would even consider a 1le? Not much of a choice in my view. Put some knock off wheels and wrap the hood on a 2ss non 1le. Done

The 1LE is a 100% drivers car, not a 100% track car ,great on back roads and incredible on track .The 2SS makes driving in traffic more bearable . I always recommend the SS 1LE over the other SSs simply because its the best performance Camaro available in that price range. Any other car company in the world would have it as a stand alone model, and would cost double.

Why not get the 2ss with the 1LE suspension and MRC? You'll be able to pull more than 1.0g which is something you'll never really get to (hopefully)

After seeing the difference between the rear center section housings between the 1LE and the SS, and the welded on ring gear ON the SS, I wouldn’t buy anything other than a 1LE

I went with the 2SS for spirited street driving, I'm very satisfied with the shifting experience, love the exhaust sound, great handling car with a strong engine. At first it felt heavy in the back and tall compared with my previous Stingray Z51, the HUD looks way better on the Corvette. But now I got used to the Camaro and my wife and I prefer the seating height of the Camaro compared to the Corvette.
I was expecting to receive gossiping from our friends because of the change from a Corvette to a Camaro SS, but was surprised because everyone spoke highly about the looks of the Camaro, we love its dark grey metallic color.

Like you can’t track a non 1le SS.
They are ill handling wallowing pigs that will have you plowing off the first turn if you even look at a track! There sure is a lot of swinging with the 1le crowd here. It’s called a track package for a reason.......it’s made for a track! Stiffer suspension, wider more expensive tires that wear out fast and follow grooves in the road. The regular SS handles as well or better than a BMW M4! I am just like the original poster, (OP), older, and wanting a big motor, stick shift and a great handling car that most likely will not see a track. (Been there done that for years on motorcycles) I opted for more of the “gentleman’s GT” and couldn’t imagine a harder ride for a car on the street. (Yes the 1le rides stiffer than the SS) I cruise around in tour mode and when the fun curves show up, a tap of the magneride gets you in sport (or track!) and the car stiffens up and rails around corners you see on the street.

Mine didn't came with the magnetic suspension and neither my previous Stingray Z51, just my prior 5th gen ZL1 had it, but still I consider it a great handling suspension that rides comfortable on the street. I'm very satisfied with my Camaro SS
If I was planning to track it often then the SS1LE would be a great choice, but for my needs a SS Camaro is sufficient

Thanks it's good to be back in the Camaro family. I think this would be a long term keeper.

Owning SSes for 50 Years
|
What a dilemma! I have a 1le and my wife likes the looks of it but hates riding in it and wouldn't think of going on a trip much over 150 miles in it. But, I had a 2016 2SS and she loved it, enjoyed driving it and liked all the looks we got while driving it. The 2SS was faster at the drag strip, the only track anywhere close by and I enjoy that very much. (loved whompin the Mustangs).
So, I too am in that quandary as I contemplate what to do if they total my Camaro. I am leaning toward another 1le, another Corvette or another 2SS.

I didn't catch it. What your wife doesn't like about the 1LE compared to a SS?
