That’s ridiculous.
My complete top install is being payed for by insurance. But I have not taken it in yet. My local chevy dealer wants to ship it 90 miles round trip away to get work done. And I am not down with that. Trying to find someone local. It’s easyer to get any problems fixed if it’s done by someone local.

The dealership can’t get the passenger window trim to align and after struggling with it for days. So today, they tried to push a shoddy top replacement on me saying the Chevy said it’s ‘within tolerances’.
I told the dealership, I won’t accept it unless it’s at the same quality as a convertible coming off of the production line. Anything less is just an excuse. Going through my historical service records, the calendar shows close to 170 in service days since 12/15/16. I only need 30 days for lemon law in Washington state. I’m looking forward to telling Chevy to take this Camaro and shove it. |

Same issue
Same thing is happening to my 2019 Camaro convertible. I have an appointment for dealer to look at it Thursday since everything is still under warranty. Does anyone know how long they think it would take a dealership to order and install another top. I know KLG said he had his replaced. I’m just wondering how long it took.

Out of curiosity, do you drive with the top up and the windows down? Can’t quit understand the cause / why it’s still happening, being a known issue for 2 years...

Parts were ordered. I do not recall how long before the parts arrived, but I am guessing I made the appointment to have the new top installed soon after the parts arrived. Dropped the car off on the morning of 12/26/2017 and picked it up the next evening on 12/27/2017. --KLG--

Just bought my 2018 2SS. Never titled but the dealership owner's wife drove it 1500 miles. I noticed the rear glass delaminating from the top, and they said they would fix it. I was told the following day that they had to replace the top. They did. Hope the new top is made of improved adhesive. BTW: Love this car!

Yes, they get you a new top.
The real issue is no one really knows how to go about properly installing it. Mine is buckled & the crunching sound up and down. Going to another dealer, but none of them do the work, they farm it out. Took a month to get mine back originally, and I had it for all of 6 weeks. Love the car, hate the service.

You would think they could come up with an adhesive to reapply the window with some type of overnight bracing on both sides. The difficulty, work hours, and down time described repeatedly here beg for a better solution.

Convertible Top Back Glass Separation
GM is aware of this problem and it is documented in bulletin #17-NA-216 dated Feb 4, 2019. It concerns Camaro Convertibles built from 2016-2018. "The cause of this condition may be an insufficient amount of primer used during the assembly process, which creates stress points allowing the material to separate from the glass." Apparently someone at GM dropped the ball in their supply chain and now if your Camaro has gone beyond the 36,000 mile warranty GM expects you, their customer, to shoulder the burden of replacing the top, an $1800.00 repair. The top should be recalled since GM built these cars with a known defective part. Additionally, this is a potentially dangerous condition that can cause injury to a rear seated passenger if the glass gives way and shatters. I am interested in talking to anyone who might be interested in joining a class action law suit against GM. It will not cost you anything and you could be compensated well beyond the replacement of your top if we prevail. I can be reached at mbphelps@me.com.

Given the reported ordeals of the process of repairing affected tops, often involving referral to private shops, I'd prefer extended warranty coverage over a total recall.

I just noticed the rear window separating from my convertible top Saturday. I called my local dealer and I was told my camaro vin number was not included in the service bulletin that Bird1956 mentioned. The service bulletin says camaro convertibles 2016-2018! I was under the impression that covered all convertibles made in those three years . According to my dealer it is not. They want to charge me $70 just to “LOOK AT IT” so they can “diagnose” the problem and so they can give me an accurate quote on the cost for the repair. Of course my warrant has lapsed, so I will be responsible for the entire cost of the repair. What kinda bs is that? I explained to the service writer that this was a known issue and it should be covered regardless of vin #! She said there was nothing she could do and I would be responsible for the cost. The dealership is 40 miles from me so it’s damn near a whole day circus just to take the car in. And that means taking off work, and losing a whole day. Especially if a known issues isn’t resolved by GM.
This is my first GM vehicle ever and I always wanted a camaro since I was a kid. I was a loyal Ford man my whole life until I got crossways with my local ford dealer concerning my expedition. Long story short, I basically told them where they could stick their truck and that I would never buy another ford vehicle. I was super excited to finally get my dream car and was hoping and expecting a better experience from GM. Unfortunately that has not been the case. My ‘vert has been in the dealers shop several times for a couple issues. Luckily those where covered under the warranty, but the personnel at the dealership were very rude and snobby. And now this issue with the window and I’m getting the cold shoulder just like ford! It’s a damn shame! Apparently it’s not a big secret that these convertibles have issues with the window. So why doesn’t GM just nut up and fix their mistake for the sake of their customers. These cars aren’t cheap! I expect a lot better service and consideration from GM and the dealership. Any GM customer buying any GM vehicle should. Guess I might just have to look into a dodge! (Cringe) 😬 |

Get on GM chat and give them the TSB # and confirm you're covered. Then give them the name of the dealer and service writer who refused it. See if they'll contact the dealer for you. Or just email you that you're covered. Failing that, you can always complain to GM in writing.
Of course either way the dealer will play dumb, so let them own the mistake and make it right for you. |

2. As the following poster wrote, contact GM, while no slam dunk and frustrating as all heck, they do turn the screws on the dealership.
