Side Skirts Required for rock protection?
Hey Guys, new member here. Search function is not working for me right now. I've been searching all around and it seems like every owner tracking their car says the side skirts are critical in protecting the rear quarter panels.
My 1LE will mainly be a street car, would I be able to get away with just the rock guards from ZL1addons? If not, is there a definitive side skirt option that's the best? ACS products seem to cost an arm and a leg, especially their rock guards. ZL1addon's skirt is cheap, and also looks the cheapest. EOS's looks nice and a good price, but it's either CF or glossy black, which doesn't match the satin theme going on with the 1LE. |

Well, I have skirts, no rock guards, and the skirts have done wonders to protect my rear quarters. Almost 6K miles and not a chip since I put them on, not tracked, yet.....Required, not sure about that, helpful and effective? Absolutely!
I went with GM Gen II skirts, perfect fit, mounts ridiculously securely and matches the 1LE aero parts perfectly. |

Side skirts help a lot with rock chip prevention, I'd also say they do more than rock guards, but the best approach is to combine the two. I used to have RPI guards that are practically the same as ZL1 Addons, but switched to Rokblokz since then, these are wider and more sturdy.
My only regret is not getting side skirts from day 1, my rocker panels have quite a few tiny "snowflakes" in the clearcoat.

The ZL1 addons rock guards aren't long enough to be effective, much. The universal mud flap is the one that works 100% of the time but you trade off that effectiveness with some style, the $15 solution is best solution.

I have the side skirts but also recommend putting the 3M clear paint protection film on the front of the rear quarters. I have both and the film still has the peppered spots. when I added the side skirts I removed the film that was on the car and the paint underneath was perfect. I strongly recommend the film!!!

I dont have the side skirts yet, and havent noticed anything so far at 2000 miles. Dealer added PPF on rear and door corners for me though.

With the 1LE I recommend both rock guards and side skirts, unless you want to use PPF on most of your car. I have ACS Composite rock guards and side skirts. I like the way both fit the car.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I did find the other threads through Google. Seems like for side skirts, the ACS ones seems to be the best option for my 1LE along with RokBlokz. Although with a side skirt, I might be able to get away with one of the sleeker rock guards. It's too bad side skirts weren't included in the price of the 1LE package, but it's still a well priced package.

I was wondering how the RokBlokz looked next to the ACS skirt. I was leaning towards all ACS but I see the value in the larger RokBlokz.

I should have purchased skirts in addition to the rock guards.

The best 2 things about side skirts are they take 10 minutes to put on. And they deflect a lot of rubber from the wheel well.

C7 Designs.
Are they necessary? IDK, they are part of a good plan with the rock guards though...
