Just a PSA to tag onto the excellent threads/video posted about changing the eLSD fluid. You definitely will want to do it twice to get all the break-in metal and crap out. The first eLSD fluid drain at 1900 miles was completely opaque, grey/silver and metallic like a paint job. There was accumulated metal on both the fill (tiny bit) and drain plug (ton) each for the eLSD. My understanding is this is normal and no odd sounds/issues on the car but I wanted to clean it out for sure.

Since the job is super easy on a lift, I went ahead and bought 4 bottles of the GM fluid so I could do a 2x drain and fill to make sure its cleaned out really well. I wasnt confident that pouring in a little extra fluid to "wash" it through would get as much out so I got four bottles up front.

The pics attached are of the 2nd drain, not the 1st, showing that there was a big improvement from the solid/crazy thick first drain but still plenty of stuff to flush out after 50 miles of driving on the 1st re-fill. I'd say the first flush got 60% of the stuff out and the 2nd got another 20-25% more, given that it was translucent and still colored/bit metally but not as much as the first at all. The fluid going in fyi is transparent completely and lightly yellow in tint.

Pics of the 2nd drain here so you can see there is still some metal and crud to get out after one drain/fill. I wont be doing another as it seems unnecessary but super glad I did this twice.

Did you drive it before doing the second drain/fill? It seems that would help further agitate and dislodge the stuff you are attempting to get out with a second drain and fill.

Looks like he drove it 50 miles between refills.

I changed mine right before my first road course event. I thought about changing it again after the event, but I haven't. I might ought to.

I posted a video of my fluid change. I always pump some clean fluid in with the drain plug out to help remove more contamination from the case bottom. I do this with any fluid change.. oil, rear end, trans, etc.. Been doing this for years.
I did contemplate disconnecting the lines and trying to drain those as well as the pump for the ELSD but didn't want to risk messing anything up.

Yes indeedy, drove a good 50 miles to get most of the particles into suspension after the 1st refill and then drained all that out as well and refilled a second time. It could just be me, but the car seems a bit peppier with the double drain/refill, throttle response wise. Doubtful, probably placebo, but it does.

Most everyone thinks their car runs stronger after a fluid change, heck I think mine is faster after I wash it. Placebo, your engine has no idea how many times you have double flushed your diff.

Funny how that works, isn't it? I feel the same way after fluid changes, a wash, and especially a wax.

When I changed my diff fluid at past 1500 miles it looked almost like new, I can’t understand the difference when I see the pics and reports of the dirty fluid many have at that mileage.

I cant explain it but mine was silver opaque metallic milk. Good for you though no bs, save a few bucks!

You can see in this video how mine looked like sparkley chocolate milk at 2500 miles. It should start where the fluid is coming out..

Same here indeed. It's such an easy job I might do it again at 5000-7500 miles just to make sure she's all set and then maybe once every two years.
