$1075 for a Roto Fab CAI, installation and tune?

Whats up guys, I have a 2019 ss a10 and going to get it tuned and add a CAI, does $1075 sound like a decent price to you guys? that price includes the CAI

also, its by https://www.cspracing.com if anyone has dealt with them, in west chester PA

EDIT: What would you guys suggest I should look into for my first performance mods? have around $2500 to play with, its all stock other than a borla atak axle back

Sounds like a really good price, the tune alone is costing you $400 + $200 for being newer than 2017, the CAI is around $440 for non big gulp, so there is already $1,040 and i figured $50 for labor on the install, so it sounds good to me.

If I may ask, are you getting the standard roto fab or the big gulp, and also why a tune if you aren't getting the big gulp? If you plan to mod more in the future you will pay a re-tune price.

Sounds decent, last car I had tuned cost $625 for the tune. I know that intake is $400 plus, and add some labor for install. CSP is well known and often recommended in the region. If it was me I’d hold off on getting a tune until adding headers and exhaust if you plan on doing more mods in the future. I could understand wanting to get the most out of the car now with the CAI though.

I mean I gotta get the tune for the CAI anyway so doesn't really make sense for me to put it on, the labor only adds like 25$ lol

you only need a tune for the CAI if its a "Big Gulp" standard roto fab does not need tuned.

the car comes with a cold air intake. The replacement cold air intake is sucking air from the same place as stock.

The only "tune" being done is due to the wider cross-section of the maf. That _might_ improve performance a little...but is it worth a thousand bucks for a 1-4% increase in performance? That's _literally_ all you'll get. 4% is being generous.

Most of the performance gain from aftermarket intakes comes from the use of a gauze filter vs paper (that and being able to use a cone filter that has more surface area than the flat ones).

I wouldn't pay more than 400 for a cold air intake on any camaro. You're paying for looks and a cone gauze filter ...everything else is BS.

Roto-Fab builds the best CAI so I agree, go get it.

The SS airbox is sized for ZL1 air flows. I haven’t seen compelling evidence of gains from a ‘CAI’ alone, so I personally would not spend over a grand for that. If you had other mods that increased airflow demands, that’s when a CAI starts to make sense. There’s a reason GM does not claim any power benefit with the GMPP CAI they offer.

OP save your self some $$ and just buy the CAI and install yourself. 1/2 hour if you take your time. Even with a tune the CAI mainly will just make more and sweeter noise and look pretty under the hood.

And once you tune your Camaro can no longer go back to stock even if you put the stock tune back in. And if Chevy finds out you own the drive train. Why risk that for at best 5 or 6 HP?

Also that shop should have explained this all to you. I would stay far away.

Holy cow full stop!

No. You are paying $1,000 to make your car sound a little better at WOT with the windows up. That's it.

If you have to have a cold air intake, just buy it and do it yourself.

A regular rotofab intake does not need a tune. An essentially stock car does not need a tune. You are throwing $1,000 and your powertrain warranty away for literally nothing.

I attempted to tune mine after my rotofab. It moved fueling on the MAF table less than 2% across the entire table (most cells didn't move at all!). That's within measurement noise. I didn't even adjust the tune - wasn't any point. Please note that doesn't mean 2% horsepower. It doesn't really work like that.

From a stock car standpoint (which it pretty much is since stock + intake = stock), Pray (arguably one of the best Gen 6 tuners out there) barely got anything after tuning. These cars aren't like the Gen 5 cars where a tune alone was worth it. They come pretty dialed in from the factory.

Now, if you wanted to go intake + flex fuel kit and tune (assuming you can get E85), that may be worth it.

Your money, but a poor bang for the buck. A tune is not necessary for the roto-fab. It really is not necessary for a stock vehicle. You will pick up a few HP along the curve, but drivability and performance will not improve significantly. Wait until you add long tube headers, you’ll have to get it tuned again at that point. Then get a full dyno and street tune and it will be money well spent. I’d save my hard earned dollars, install the CAI yourself and enjoy the cool looking mod and a fatter checking account.
