Recall Fix - Add a key UGH!

Just drove a rental Camaro SS (thanks Avis), and noticed it had the key fob with the flip-out blade key removed, and a regular key attached to the key chain. I assume this is the fix for the ignition recall, but I hate the solution.

Safety is important, but I haven't noticed any issue with the key coming out on the highway, even when I try to bump it (I don't have a mess of keys and crap attached to the fob). Thinking about turning down the recall service.

Anyone have any info on push-button start mods?

As any one of the 45 dozen other posts about the recall states, you do not HAVE to swap your switchblade key set out. You own the keys, you are not forced to have them cut out of the fob. There is a waiver you can sign (I hear, I don't know I have not received a recall notice?) and either way... the choice is yours. I applaud GM for being proactive this time vs. what happened with the key issues on the Solstice (which I owned), but I'm keeping my switchblade keys. They're mine.

You might want to think about that statement. Just playing, all I have to do is move my right foot away from the throttle / brake pedal area and my knee is very close to the switchblade key (Nothing attached to key). I can easily lift my leg and hit the key, but I have not tried to turn the car off, though I imagine I could. I thought what might cause me to move my knee up and hit it if I was not trying to like in my test. Maybe a huge bump or pothole could jar some drivers enough. I promise you it can be done, and I also promise you I am not an idiot.

Yep, me either. I'm 6'1 and I drive with the seat closer up bc I have my son in the backseat most of the time. I just adjusted the column and don't worry or think about it when I'm driving. Never have even after all the hoopla.

So i tried to hit the key while parked and sure enough just a little bump and the key turned the car off. I'm only 5'9" so I literally had to raise my whole leg but it is possible - give it a try
Disclosure - I'm, not giving up my keys!

I got my recall notice last week. I went to the dealer and they filled out a work order. I signed it as refused and was given a letter from GM. That letter stated that I could at any time in the future have this recall done. In light of that, why would anyone get the recall done?

Obviously it's more of a problem for some physiques and some preferred seating positions than others.

It's not easy understanding on a gut level why other people don't fit things the same way as yourself, or how much differently it might take for them to set things in order to fit in comparable comfort.

I have stated this before, so not to sound like a broken record, I want to be able to carry a key to my office and my main residence on the same deal asm my car key. With the switchblade key, it hangs them out over my legs where they are hit, and its an annoyance. Plus, I can easily hit the key with my knee. I have not got my letter yet, but am getting it done.
