We drove my Camaro to Ca. Now questions

We are staying south of Barstow and tomorrow will be traveling to LomPoc. I would like to drive up the coast but don't want to be in bumper to bumper traffic.
What do you local folks suggest?

I'm thinking I15 to 210 to 134 to 170 to 101 and drop down through Topanga Canyon to the coast and follow the Pacific Coast Highway north.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sunday traffic should be less than usual, but don't be surprised if it gets heavy from time to time. The earlier, the better...PCH is heavily traveled on weekends, so don't be surprised if it goes slow. Good luck, that's a tough route overall. Unless you want to see all of Malibu coast, you can take Mulholland off of Topanga and follow it all the way to PCH and still have plenty of coast to see after that. Mulholland would be more of a spirited drive than PCH.
Either way you'll enjoy it. Good luck.

My advice is use WAZE and GasBuddy, and those are suggestions for any state, not just Cali.

Yeah a tough drive. And tomorrow maybe Mother’s Day traffic. Right now, and Saturday is the worst day of the two, it’s a five hour drive to Lompoc going your route but only taking 134 to 101 only. The 210 has traffic or construction issues it seems between the 57 and 605 freeways. Going to pch will be longer, and you will have to swing back to the 101 at some point anyway

Take Topanga south off the 101. You will see the signs....You want Mulholland Hwy...You can then go south if you want off Mulholland Hwy to the coast on Malibu Canyon, Kanan Road, etc., or follow it to the end. Good luck.

Poor man, stuck in Barstow lol

My buddy was stationed at Fort Irwin. What a whole lot of nothing that area is.

Take the 1 up the coast or down whichever way you're going. Don't worry about the traffic, if it's a nice day you won't even notice it since its so beautiful to see. After all you drove all that way from cold ass Illinois why would you miss the coast just hopping around. There are a few places you can just stop and have a beer or lunch.

Why not take a drive thru Santa Barbara or Los Olivos….not sure who you’re driving with but that’s a beautiful drive and some fun roads thru that area as well….if you like wine there is plenty of it there as well….where you from in Illinois? I’m from the Naperville area

The beauty of Waze is you can set your destination and let it know what time you want to arrive at that destination. It does a really good job of telling you what time you should leave in order to arrive at your destination at your desired time. I use it extensively when I tell a client to expect me at a certain time.

Where in CA are you? Been here almost 11 years, in North County San Diego... Grew up in Des Plaines, IL, lived in the far NW burbs for the 20+ years prior to moving to CA...

Most of these posts reads like a SNL Californians skit!

"I'm thinking I15 to 210 to 134 to 170 to 101 and drop down through Topanga Canyon to the coast and follow the Pacific Coast Highway north."

"you can take Mulholland off of Topanga and follow it all the way to PCH"

"it’s a five hour drive to Lompoc going your route but only taking 134 to 101 only. The 210 has traffic or construction issues it seems between the 57 and 605 freeways. Going to pch will be longer, and you will have to swing back to the 101 at some point anyway"

Ha!Ha! Good luck OP and enjoy the drive!
