GM requesting to push an update on my car

Hello all, I have a question. I have a 2020 SS car and love it EXACTLY as it is, I had a pop up on my infotainment screen come up today that GM wants to push an update that will take 12 minutes.

You can give me your opinion if you would like, but I have 1 specific question.

How can I prevent this? Its my car, I like it as is, I would prefer to deny the tampering with it. In my experience, (maybe yours is different) everytime GM did this something I liked in the car was gone and replaced by something I did not like. Simple things like the greeting charm list to a change in the engine calibration. Point is, its my car and I want to keep it that way, as is.

A while back I read a post on this forum about pulling an Onstar fuse, would this block the push? Is there anything I can do? usually you can delay these for a while, but just like your windows based computers they will make you do it.

Do it, it's mostly infotainment stuff, keeping up with phone updates for Carplay and GPS most likely.

Must be a 2SS thing. My 1SS is telling me nothing about an update. Maybe it has to do with the 2SS's Navigation system or something.

Never had an issue with the updates, on my 17 or my 19. Makes me feel good somehow lol. Like she’ll be bigger better stronger faster.

It’s just an update. No different than you do with your phone.

Why would you not want a software update?

As with any software update, performance and, more importantly SECURITY, are usually the reasons for an update.

Because when the company isn't fully transparent about what they're updating you have no idea what else you may be getting.

Would you want your GMPP tune or a tune that fixed the slip tables for your otherwise shuddering A8 overwritten?

This isn't a phone app that you can just delete and move on with your life as before if you don't like where a company is taking their software. Complete transparency, detailed pre-installation confirmations and an opt-out option for each individual update would be the decent approach here.

There is some information publicly available in GM TIS about the calibration software version history for some modules, but it's a far cry from a user friendly, customer respecting, honest disclosure.

I don’t understand the big deal here about getting an update! If GM sent me a notice to update my 2017 ZL1 I would have it done as long as it was free! Too much paranoia with some folks here!

On the topic of software updates. Did GM stop supporting the previous gen MyLink systems found on the 2016-2018 Camaro's?
