TPMS reset tool.....WORKED!

Several months back I found a set of OEM , 2016 black SS wheels , with tPMS sensors, allowing me to keep a set of all seasons and summers mounted and ready to go.

Installed the spare wheels with my original Goodyear run flat's last week. Immediately I got a TPMS error icon. I bought a Chinese, reset tool off of E Bay for $29 IIRC a few months back. Saw the link someplace here on the Forum.

Got out the manual today, installed a 9V battery in the tool and in 90 seconds had all four reset! I seldom have anything involving electronics or computers go this smoothly. Considering my closest Dealer, 45 miles away...Wanted $30 to do a reset. I'm quite happy.

There is not a procedure to reset the tpms through the dash/controls of the car itself? Were they new sensors?

Yes....new sensors, in my spare set of wheels. NOT aware of any reset through the dash screen. I only read the manual as far as HOW to use the tool. I believe the relearn tool is required.

SUB.... No mine is BLUE. Model: XSCAN, OEC-T5, EL-50448.

if you are gonna change wheels.... hands down the best thing to have in the tool box. I switched to the new track/DD wheels, and half way down to DC to visit family, the sensors finally realized, they hadn't been reprogrammed. I pulled over to a rest stop off, 95, did the reset activation on the display and walked around the car once, putting the EL-50448 tool near each stem. horn honks at each wheel when done. Easy fix

^^^I'm using the same EL-50448 tool and can't get it to work.

Step 1) Enter learn mode... horn honks twice.

Step 2) Place tool near stem and hit the button. Green light flashes but does not make connection (no horn honk).

Tried placing it on the rubber near the wheel, right on the valve stem and right where the sensor would be on the wheel.

Guess I'll head down to discount tire and have them do it.

Cheap $16 Amazon tool worked perfectly and reset mine last week. Was actually impressed that it worked lol. My buddy works at costco tire shop and said it’s easier, and worked better than the $1500 tool they use lol.

This is what I was looking at today. If it works I'll pay the 135. It does have some nice features.

That's kind of what I'm thinking... I may try a return and see what happens.

I tried it on my 2010 Tahoe and 2018 Silverado as well and it didn't work.

The key for me was pointing the antenna AT the sensor through the tire. Just holding it close or near doesn't do it, its directional.
