Well that sucks...
The 1LE is sitting at about 2k/km at this time. Went for a nice little drive the other day. On the way home, after I sat there idling for a little while, I get a message that the car is overheating and I should idle it to bring the temps down. I decided to drive gently for a little bit to get some airflow over the rad. This did the trick and at some point the temps dropped like a stone back to normal. The same thing happened backing into the garage and I even had the rad fluid vent out after I turned off the car. After she sat there for a while, the was definitely a smell of something haven been scorched, a plastic sort of smell.
So now she will be towed back to the dealer on Wednesday to find out what went wrong. Anyone out there ever run into something like this before? |

No and I’ve been beating on mine like crazy. Actually I’m in your town right now. I’m surprised it’s overheating to be honest. Are the cooling fans coming on?

I haven’t checked. I’m a little nervous of even starting it up before they Scan for codes.

It has been very hot at least in my area lately (eastern Ontario). I auto started the car yesterday and the fan came on right away I couldn't believe how loud it was you could hear it clearly 40 feet away.

Yeah, at max speed the engine fan howls like a lion.

If I were to place money on the problem...
I would guess the fan packed it in. There was a plastic smell since it started acting up. And the overheating went away when I started driving again (even though the car told me to idle it to get the temps down). My 2 cents. |

I haven’t screwed around with my different HVAC settings that came from the factory. I know in this heat I’ll start my car and my cooled seats automatically turn on. |

Just got her back from the shop. Turns out it was the radiator fan that packed it in. So if you smell a plastic odor coming from under the hood after going for a drive, it might be happening to u too.

Wow. How many miles / km's on the clock when that happened?
As a much younger person, I drove a '82 Skylark that belonged to my parents. It had the 6cyl 2.8L engine in it and was all-around a fairly solid car. I remember it being pretty hot one day and pulling up to a stop light. The temp light came on and I didn't hear the fan running. I pulled the car over right away and checked under the hood to find that the electrical connector was down near the bottom and coated with road gunk. I removed it from the spade terminal, wiped it down with a napkin, did my best to get teh gunk off of the connector as well and slid it back on. Fan fired right up and never had an issue again. |

Goto say...GM took care of the flatbed to get her to the dealer, and the dealer was more than respectful with me and my baby. The dealer even knew to park the car inside when it started to rain, and left it there overnight.
I’m very happy with the service they provided. |

The fan is a prime suspect. Where I live it's Africa hot right now and that sucker fires up after sitting in the garage overnight, can hear it from 50 feet away. If you weren't hearing that, I'd say it's bad...
