If you did ported heads before cam swap. Would the cam have to be spec'd to the heads? and vice versa?

Looks awesome and look forward to your et/mph. I thought I was buying another LSX and a cam swap was in order until I saw how few cams were out there.....then the VVT set up. I think I'll be quite happy with bolt ons with this car as awesome as it already runs and drives. Love the stealthy ported heads plan too.....

Short answer is yes. You always want to spec the cam for the head flow with all your other goals in mind.

Thank you PRAY for the great information and transparency! I don't have much head porting experience so it's awesome to get a feel for what you're doing and why.

No worries. I would give more info on how I got to what I did for these heads but it is really just to much typing and I am not a very good communicator of my techniques on complicated subjects. My mind seems to work differently than everyone else's.

Sharing is too easy. I am never going to get rich doing this stuff and I am not competing against anyone so it just makes sense to help as much as I can. I guess I will have to settle for being semi famous on Camaro 6. LOL.

Always take interest in your threads. I like the detail, even if some (most) of it goes over my head. I figure if I read enough I'll eventually learn something

I am about 100% positive I am skipping the track tomorrow night. It is supposed to be 90* and my weekend has filled up with work and family commitments. I am going to try to get on the dyno today and get the head swap underway tomorrow. I should be up and running for some track testing on Sunday. I will get back on the dyno Monday and report back.

Same question just to keep these two threads going. When will you be able to dyno and see the difference in the head work? Do you think the stock heads ported will be better or or comparable to the heads offered by chevrolet with the "hot" cam?

Results are up in a new thread. I have not seem GM do any good CNC heads. That is an honest answer. The GM LS9 CNC head can be made good with some hand work. I guess the LS7 head be considered good GM CNC heads. But I have picked up over 40cfm on those as well.

For me the loss at low end is a deal breaker :(
I spend most of my time down there.
I will have to get the other dyno runs. There were some that didn't lose any. We were experimenting with a bunch of stuff. In normal driving it is making more power. I guarantee that. The throttle response and low end grunt is greatly improved. The can just doesn't need or can't use the extra air at WOT. They aren't the gains I was looking for top to bottom but I will trade 5rw down low for 25-30rw up top any day. I went to pass some one today at 60 and the traction control light was on the entire time. Don't let the graph fool you.

Has any one seen anyone else test just a set of heads? I am curious to see what others have made or what the curve looks like.
