The 1LE SS is virtually what GM has built with a Z/28 badge for years, except for the power output and the 5th gen car. This idea that the Z/28 was a true track car is ridiculous. It was a race-oriented car, with upgraded brakes and wheels. It had nothing special about it that would label it as some "race car".
1st Gen Z/28: Had to be made so Chevy could run in the SCCA Trans-Am circuit--302ci, light weight, etc..
2nd Gen Z/28: Added an LT1 350 with higher hp and torque than the 302, along with an auto trans option
3rd Gen Z/28: Nothing more than stickers and wheels
4th Gen Z/28: Nothing more than stickers and wheels
5th Gen Z/28: Hardcore track weapon

How about one seat only and a roll cage from the factory.
Plus the other stuff mentioned. Weight, power and gears

Too hardcore, IMHO. I don't foresee a 6th Gen Z/28 as I've stated before. I don't see any room for it in the current lineup. GM has all of their bases covered with all of the different options they currently offer.

Current "track-focused/track capable" Camaro's: 1LE V6, 1LE SS, ZL1 and ZL1 1LE

Where? Where do you place a Z/28 both performance-wise and price-wise? I don't see a logical/rational position for it.

Even after they stopped running in the SCCA/Trans-Am runs, the Z/28 was still traditionally a 10-15hp down compared to the SS. The Z/28 was built so that the engine/chassis was available to race. It was not built to racing specs.

It was given some upgrades in the braking/wheels/suspension area.

You essentially made my point for me... there's nothing about the car that ever made it a true track car, ala GT350 R or the 5th Gen Z/28 car... it was always a standard Camaro with some decent tech on it.

There was virtually nothing about the car itself, that was truly a "race car". Yes, they made the car so they could run in the SCCA, but again, it was all marginal improvements on the car.

After the Trans Am series went away, they just started slapping the Z28 badge on any V8 Camaro. That doesn’t mean it’s a Z/28. Just like they started slapping SS on all sorts of things.

Exactly. I was agreeing with you.

See the gen 3 and 4 where not Z/28 they where less of a car, that is why they only got only Z28 if you don't see that i cant help you understand what the Z/28 was, is, and going to be.

Like i said before this is always in fun, hope you do get that.

I really dislike the they knew they were less of a car so they used Z28 instead of Z/28. Didn't early 70s Z/28s (that many still consider true Z cars) start using the Z without the slash?

I fully understand that. It is well known among GM enthusiasts; however, even without the "slash", GM still decided to use the same letter and two numerals in the same sequence (Z28). No need to be a smart mouth. We're all having a nice, friendly conversation here. Thank you.

Yes, you are correct.

It is interesting that the three most significant gen Z's had the slash, and props to Al's team for paying homage and lobbying for it on the fifth. End of the day it's an RPO. It certainly was a shadow of itself on the late second, and third and fourth gens when the IROC and SS were the chalk for performance.

That's because even back then no one bought them

But in all seriousness they do fetch more because they are rare compared to SS models

Much like no one got the 5th gen Z/28, lol if you look now there are not many left to buy, and there is a guy saying that the ZL1LE is the same way with lots of used one up for sale, look on Sunday and there where 4-6 cars on cars.dot com that is not a lot.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off rude like that. I had actually meant to say thank you for helping make my point for me. Your info was actually quite appreciated.
