a 12V air compressor and a tire plug kit has been my go-to. I keep a plug kit (<$10) in every vehicle.
if you lose the bead or tear a sidewall, you get to sit in a tow truck.

I've actually thought about this too. Hoping to get new wheels and tires soon, and I'd considered just throwing one of the front wheel/tires in the trunk when I go out of town. Also looked at modern spare, which takes up less space, but does cost some money. How much room do you have in the trunk after you put a wheel in there!? |
