I have the option to buy a 2018 1ss with 25k miles and a 2016 1ss with only 3k miles. The price is the same on both, which one should I get?What are the year differences cosmetically and performance etc? I’ve checked the car fax in the 2016 cause I thought it was odd to have only 3k miles. Anything else I should check ??

If it's an Automatic 8 avoid. Also check out the under carriage, look for rust on the body down there, also look under the hood for general cleanliness / decomp. It shouldn't look too bad being driven so little. Also look under the wheel wells. Up inside of those you should be able to run your fingers around and not find any stuck rubber specs to it. If you do find those, it's probably been beat on and not cleaned up after the fact.

What about an automatic 8 might make it bad? I’ll be able to take it to a dealership to inspect it before purchase. Should I do that?

2016 A8 had issues with shudder.

I'd still go with the 2018 since you have more time remaining on the factory warranty.

Is there a way to test to see if this car has the shudder? I have 7 day test period where I can return it.

There were also 2018 models that were having the shudder issue aswell. You will know instantly if either one of them has it as it feels like your driving over the rumble strips of a highway. Best way to test would be get it on a highway and hold it around 70 to 75.

If I have plenty of time to test it on the highway and also get it inspected do you think the 2016 is the better deal?

Yes. Keep telling people about the A8 issue and drive down the prices. In actuality, replacing the torque converter with an aftermarket piece, will resolve this. And getting an aftermarket TC is something you should really do if you want the car to hit nice from a dig. I would not have a problem swapping out the TC for a circleD unit to get more performance. And getting the car at a huge discount, will be a plus!!

It depends on which has the better warranty. If you don't care about the warranty and plan on modifying it I'd shoot for the 16 just because it's got less miles and try to knock the price down some more.

There is a well documented shudder problem that started with the 2016 models. A bit less for ‘17, I’m not sure if it was or wasn’t an issue for 2018. Even though it is much talked about here, it is still relatively rare. I have a 2017 with 19k. Never had the issue. Nobody I know in my Camaro club who has a Gen 6 has had the problem. For a long time GM’s fix for it wasn’t a fix at all. My understanding is that they have a fix for it now. If you prefer a manual buy a manual. If you prefer an automatic, get an automatic.

The A8 auto transmission issue definitely affects the 2018s as well. But the 2018 would have the longer warranty if you won't mod it.

Could it be that the shudder is more common in the hotter climates? Or maybe more humid? Not that uncommon around here in central Texas. I know three other people with the A8 and we've all had the problem.

From posts on here and the C7 forums, seems the latest fluid and flash has worked. Many have 3k-5k miles on the car already and no sign of the shudder. I have it, albeit a light shudder, that only happens maybe once a trip if that, and you just have to tap the gas to stop it. It doesn't bother me that much, and wouldn't stop me from buying another A8. My dealers trans flush machine is STILL down, for some reason the part that broke is hard to find, but i'll be getting the fix done soon. Hopefully LOL.

my 2017 had the shudder, got it flushed out just about a year ago. put just under 4000 miles on the car since and no shudder (daily driver). there have been a handful of times where I thought it shuddered (very, very lightly)but I could never replicate it.
