just asked a company about a e85 gauge. If i could splice into the sensor for the ECU

they sell the gauge with and without a flex fuel sensor so I asked if it was possible to run the gauge off the flex fuel sensor I already have in the car for the ECU. this is the response I got back.

You can splice into the signal wire off of the sensor harness. But please keep in mind this can skew data.

Thank you

ok so I can do it just the gauge wont read right and if the gauge wont read right i imagine the ECU wouldnt get the right reading so what would be the point of installing this gauge?

Because Chevy will not tell aftermarket companies how to read there data or how to intrepid there algorithms.

The flex fuel sensor outputs a frequency and a pulse width. You can double tap that and it does not effect the signal.

The freq/ratio is known, I think I have that data at home but it is also on the net. There is fuel temp data in that signal too.

if you have the ECU and the gauge hooked up to the same sensor will the 2 draw to much power and offset the signal.
0volts = 0% ethanol 5volts= 100% ethanol

the sensor does not output a 0-5 volt signal. it outputs a frequency. same with the maf sensor. you can double tap these without effecting the signal.

most 0-5 volt output sensors can be double tapped with a very slight effect of the reading.

in the manual for the sensor it says voltage for the outputs to data log. https://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/ecf1.php i definatly dont want either reading to be off at all

those are outputs from the innovate controller. those are not the inputs to the innovate controller from the flex fuel sensor.

the flex fuel sensor outputs frequency and pulse width. the frequency matches the picture above. 50hz = 0% ethanol and 150hz = 100% ethanol.

double tapping the sensor does not effect the frequency and does not effect the reading.

if you have doubts hook up a scan tool to the factory ecm and log ethanol ratio then add in the wiring to the innovate controller and see if the reported % on the factory ecm changes. it wont.

thanks I believe you. i think I will get it with the sensor though being its only an extra $34. I dont want to add another sensor to the line as I would have to buy another Racetronix adaptor and make a new fuel line. might as well have the sensor if mine ever fails.

It's a nice gauge. You can just disconnect it while data logging. I have it and the AEM with pass through plug. Simple install.
