So you can be on some highways and rural roads and still get bad fuel economy. We have too many of these poorly designed roads around here and they tend to be dangerous too.

For acceleration, relatively low rpms and moderate to higher loads are most efficient. The V8 does this well, tons of low RPM torque, but with 6.2L it's not efficient unless you're in higher gears or using it for heavier loads, and even then... With some turbo cars you might be best off accelerating slower if it keeps the turbo from spooling but with NA you're probably better off with a faster rate of acceleration, but keeping rpms down as well.
okay great thanks for the info i definitely do drive in stop and go traffic every morning to work so that could be whats hurting me the most and the back roads i drive on do have a lot of stop signs.

FWIW-

37 miles each way (daily commute).
40+ mpg in the early mornings (41.2 this very morning) averaged over 25 miles.
29-33 mpg in the evening commuter muck and mire, again averaged over 25 miles.
With some around town driving on the weekends tossed in it typically nets 31-34 mpg average for the whole tank fill.

This can vary due to a lot of factors, many of them out of my control.

V6, A8, A/C rarely used, 34 psi in all four tires, "relatively" sedate driving generally.

I average around 19 given my driving style. But my best 50 is 43mpg. Your foot makes all the difference between a gas efficient car and a fun guzzler

Same car you have, 2016 RS LGX M6. Open road cruising 35mpg. all city 22mpg, stepping on it hard 18mpg. Average about 25-26 with mix. It does help to shift 1-3-5 in city.

My "lifetime" average over almost 10k is 27.1.
Car loves 60-65mph in warm summer, will bust 30mpg at cruise.
Around town and home, it gets roughly 24-25mpg at average speed of about 35-38.
Sprinkle in a few blasts, and passing dawdlers, that about covers it.

19.3 Here. Mix of city and highway. Always romp on it once a trip. In V4 mode we can get 30-35mpg on the highway at 65mph.

That beats me. There's nowhere in Texas where you can only go 65. Otherwise you would never get there. On the trip to CamaroFest last July, the computer thinks I got a good 50 mile average of 33mpg. Not sure where, must have been all down hill.

You know, talking about romping on it, my cousin has a GMC truck with magna flows.
Sounds good, and bada$$, but when i followed him the other day up "depression hill" to our hometown, his ~3-3500 RPM blasts got some pozz that hardly moved for acceleration. My SS? I kept up at 12-1500 RPM without as much as a groan, or loud report.
He's the type who shows off. Me, not so much. One of my mantras-
"duck who squalks the loudest, gets his a$$ shot off!"
******
Of course, when he turned off, I was aware of his windows open, and I opened mine up.
Shot up the rest of the hill like a missile. 3 second blast.
******
-"THERE.-"

Hello, I had the same issue with my SS, I was suppose to be getting 16MPG but I wasn't. I finally admitted to me self that I had a heavy foot, so what I recommend is just to take it easy and go the speed limit and try to take the freeway as much as possible.

PS. Check your Oil and your Intake Filter and make sure your tires are good.

yeah i actually took a trip this weekend and it was 95% highway miles and I took it easy keeping it around 65-70 just to see how it was and i was able to get 34-38 mpg for "last 25 miles" so it looks like it is just my driving style because i like to floor it once and a while and i think i have a heavy foot when it comes to taking off after stop signs or stop lights. maybe once i get my SS i wont have to floor it as hard to take off from the stop signs because the car will have more acceleration ahah
