tuning out AFM--how to? - Page 2

Car is pretty smooth now.
My usual mechanic and i pulled the plugs on the forward located exhaust flaps.
Love the sound, more authoritative, not unpleasant, but in V4 mode, sounds like the engine is cutting farts.
It also throws a CEL, and a diagnostic indicates
-fuel pump control module-
So apparently they are wired into that. He eliminated the CEL but it re-appeared on restart. No win there.

If AFM is tuned out, would there be anything to keep an eye out for with the lifters?
