Sell 2SS for SS1LE or upgrade SS?

Looking for some advice on what to do with my 16 Camaro 2SS.

For awhile I've been toying with the idea of selling my 16 Camaro and buying a 17/18 SS1LE. I really like all the goodies of the 2SS so I was hoping to go with the 18 2SS1LE if I do make the switch, only thing I don't really want is the sunroof but that's tolerable.

Alternatively I was considering just adding on some parts to the 162SS I have now. I've already made some minor cosmetic modifications (pictures in the black Camaro thread), but nothing performance wise other then a oil catch can from Mishimoto. Currently sitting at 25.5k Miles. The car is mostly used for daily driving when the weather isn't crap here in NJ, I don't get to track often if at all due to work.

So my main questions...

If I do sell my Camaro I figure it would be better to sell it privately? If so how much?

If I buy a 2SS1LE what would you say the asking price is reasonably with 5-10k miles?

Or should I just not sell at all and essentially put a 1LE kit on my 16SS minus the eLSD of course?

Thanks for any input you all have.

OP literally says he doesn't track often or at all.

First reply dO YoU tRaCk???

OP sounds like you are just going for the looks. Get a hood wrap, paint the mirrors, buy a 1LE splitter, 1LE spoiler, and 1LE rep wheels.

my opinion ... having owned both ... just keep your ss.

i had a 2ss that a young driver t-boned and totaled. i replaced it with a 2ss 1le. street driving the SS is more than enough. we also seem to forget how capable the ss is on track without the 1le pack.

Sorry krops, glad you didn't get mad at me, but i expect better out of you haha

Agreed, I wish i had the Recaros and the ELSD, but the autocross guys seem to be complaining a lot about the ELSD now.

No, they are getting the GM ELSD tune for autoX saying they are getting too much single wheel spin with the stock calibration. The tune makes the diff lock up faster like the good old mechanical diff in our SSes.

Well, the sell vs buy price gap between your 2016 2SS and a 2018 2SS 1LE with the desired mileage is less than the cost of upgrading everything in your car (minus the eLSD and the PDR, of course, as those are realistically unfeasible).

I personally chose the upgrade path, because I like adding stuff piecemeal and enjoying improvements along the way, plus I wanted a supercharger as well, but in your case I'd probably try the sell and buy route first. You would automatically get some fixes from the newer model year, too.

Wow that was a lot more replies a lot faster then I was anticipating, thanks everyone.

Yeah I generally don't track it unfortunately... Looking at the two the only thing that doesn't look upgradable on the SS to me is the eLSD, everything else looks like I could do it myself. I'm actually not much on suede so I prefer the leather of the SS over the 1le.

Guess the only thing I'm not sure on is how much is the price gap between cars and how much is the upgrade list? I found a 18 2SS1LE for 40k~ with 6000 miles on it, but I honestly don't know what I could get for my car.

Also any major quality of life changes from 16 to 18? I figured they had to work out some bugs from then.

According to the Camaro team putting the 1LE Suspension goodies and the 1LE tire gets you to within 2 Sec of a 1LE over a 2 min lap (1.7% slower). I'm not 100% sure but it doesn't sound like that car had Magride or the 6-piston brakes and 2 piece rotors either.

So for 1,600 in suspension parts and whatever 1LE spec wheels and tires cost you are likely within driver error of a 1LE especially if you have no intentions of tracking it competitively. My guess is this is cheaper than the 7,000 1LE package let alone the loss you'd take by trading up.

I took the path of upgrading my '17 1SS to get as close as possible to a 1LE using Chevy performance parts, less magnetic shocks, seats, etc. I do enjoy the track so it was worthwhile having the lowered and stiffer suspension, bigger brakes (especially), aero, etc., and I like the look. But in reality for fun track days, the the times are probably minimal and I agree likely within driver skill differences.

My current '17 1SS will be listed in the classified in the next few days if anyone is interested in my current '17. I'm planning to upgrade to a 2021 1LE, now that the 10 speed automatic transmission is available (my personal preference over manual).

Last time I checked, the price difference between his traded-in or sold 2016 SS and a used 2017 1LE was less than the 1LE package price ($7000). The depreciation hit at this point will also have been taken by the "target car", he isn't trying to buy new or even the latest model year.
