ZL1 1LE - Driving to track?

If the ZL1 1LE requires 15w50 for track use, and 0w40 for street use, how are people driving them to track events? Does everyone trailer their cars? Or change their oil at the track?

You're not going to hurt the car driving it to the track with 15w50 especially in warm climates. Even if it's on the colder side just baby the car until the oil temps come up and you'll be fine

Even if it's a couple hundred miles?

Is it at all feasible to save the street 0w40 oil between track events? Let's say you have 500 miles on a street 0w40 oil. Can you dump that to a clean container, put in 15w50 for a track weekend, then swap back to the old 0w40 afterwards?

I changed to 15w50 at mile 50 and have been running it since.

What percentage street/track do you drive? Any issues running the thicker weight day to day?

I haven't used my car on the track... I'm jealous of you that do but I use 15w50 during the summer and 0w40 for the winter months. I don't daily my car, I put about 4,000 miles a year on it and happy changing my oil twice a year.

Nothing wrong using 15/50. Like someone already said, make sure the car is warmed up, before you do any "spirited" or track driving.

Yep, give the 15/50 oil time to warm up before flogging and it’s perfectly fine for daily driving in not freezing climates.

Interesting, thanks everyone!

What got me thinking about this is reading: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=552667, where its stated 15w50 is not approved for street use.

Looking through the high performance supplement, it does state to move back to 0w40 after track usage. My concern is warranty off track. Are you concerned about a voided warranty if GM says you're driving on the street with track oil?

By the way, I don't own a ZL1 1LE (have an SS 1LE), but I'm wanting to move to a ZL1. I'm just not sure if I really want the 1LE package, so this topic interests me.

I just purchased my ZLE but I know that the recommended oil has changed to 0w40 thru-out the range with no changes needed now.

Oh, interesting. Do you have a link to the HP supplement or track prep guide for 2019? I only see 2017/2018 online.

Are you not able to download it through the My Chevy app? I too am under the impression that the recommended oil for the ZLE is still 15w-50 for track only, but will not hurt anything with a warm up in normal climates.

I did find the 2019 track prep guide on my.chevrolet.com, which seems unchanged and still says 15w50 for the ZL1 1LE. I don't see the HP supplement.

Like I said, my concern is warranty. I'm wondering if the dealer would give you crap if you bring it in for engine issues and they find 15w50.
