Hi everyone, out of curiosity what rim size are you running for winter?

Thanks!

I just run the stock wheels for my LT1. The allseasons are good enough for winters in the lower Mid Atlantic. You're in Buffalo, so potentially upgrade the all seasons to winters and grab a set of SS Takeoffs for the summer.

I'm running stock size, 245/40/20. I ran the Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires this year. They did okay in the Indiana winter. In deep snow they struggled a little, but useable.

I run a set of base model 18x8.5 (et32) wheels on my SS 1LE for winter, with the stock-size 245/50/18 tires.

That's my plan as well - I like more side wall for winter potholes.

Where did you source the wheels? Online or dealer?

I found a slightly used set on craigslist or FB local to me. The owner had a base Camaro and upgraded to something bigger/sportier. They were nearly mint for a very good price. Just lucky.

Common wisdom says to go with a "-1" diameter wheel (20 x 8.5 is stock, so 19 x8.5 in this case {disclaimer: I have a set of 19x8.5 wheels in NY I could sell} ) and narrower tire with a higher sidewall (245/40R20 is stock, so 235/45R19 would be the snow tire choice) for snow tires. Some have gone all the way to the 1LS wheel of 18x8.5 and 245/50R18 tires.

If you already have an LT1, why would you not use the small stock wheels for winter service and get a new, wider set for summer service?

Though Buffalo may or may not necessitate winter tires sooner than your more Southerly neighbors.

That is the ideal scenario. Local, minty, and stock TPMS.

I prefer a thinner tire as well as a thicker sidewall. We want snow penetration here and a thinner tire punches through easier. The tread block design is what provides the ice traction (I prefer Blizzak). The sidewall height really depends on the road quality. Being in northern IL, our state flower is the construction barrier light. Our roads get trashed every spring as plows bash into heaving concrete, removing chunks. I can dodge potholes when the road is visible but when you have snow/ice/slush covering it helps to have some cushion.

I have a truck I can drive during the rougher winter days, and maybe i'll end up parking the camaro more often in the winter than I expect especially with the way we use salt here.
