Katech ZL1 LT4 Wet Sump Oil Pump

Does anyone know the status of the Katech LT4 wet sump oil pump that is being developed, that should fix any problems with the factory LT4 oil pump
I telephoned Katech in July 2020 and they said it was coming soon.

On 8/20 they posted on the failed oil pump thread to stand by for an announcement soon.

Shoot Zach at Katech an email. He posted a reply in the oil pump failure poll in the ZL1 section of the forum on page 39.

Be nice to have info on in next week or two max. Only thing holding up my build is the 2650. Apparently there is a rotor shortage, so my 2650 is held up. I am replacing my oil pump and at this point with oe GM latest part number pump unless Katech shows what they have to offer.

GM worked with Melling and fixed the issue. There have been around 6 part number revisions. No need to wait for Katech.

Hi...

Just wondering if you confirmed this info from someone at GM or Melling. I realize there were part number changes, several of them, so how are you sure the latest P/N will be the cure?

I want to keep my ZLE, but l believe l'm in the build range that will likely fail. I have no desire to spend $800+ dollars for an aftermarket unit, plus labor, to fix what GM and Melling messed up. So l guess l'll be stuck waiting for a failure and hoping GM sends new, latest version of this disaster.

Any info you can verify will be appreciated.

JJ

When you say "...l believe l'm in the build range that will likely fail...." is there data that says that greater than 50% of cars between X-Y build dates are failing? I haven't kept track of this info.

I thought the percentage was very low so most cars even during that build range are very likely not to fail, but some have.

Here is a general idea of build dates and failures.

You are correct. There is a date range when there legitimately seems to be a higher rate of failure. But, to think that every LT4 produced in that ~6 month window has or will fail seems to be a stretch. We would be seeing thousands of blown LT4 if this were the case.

I agree with using OEM over an unproved aftermarket option.

That said, I do want to point out that GM changes part numbers on parts all the time. A part number change does not mean the part was revised. The 6 part number changes on the pump doesn't mean it went through some physical revision change each time. I think that's somewhat of a misconception.

The latest part number are what the latest LT4's are being built with, and there have been no reported issues with them.

I read online almost a year ago that GM was working with Melling (their supplier) but I don't remember that exact site.
