Our Stock SS 6.2 engines Making over 500HP and Tq. (gross)

Looks like our stock 6.2s are making over 500hp and over 500lbs Tq Gross SAE rated power. Gross SAE is at the cranks without any engine attachments like alt. AC or any other power driven accessories.

Nice find and nice to know. Not surprised with the dyno numbers in this video and it makes sense with a factory SAE rating of 455/455.

Cool....justifies me telling everyone my car makes over 500hp and TQ. Should be good for a few Ooooohs and Aaaahs at the next family gathering.

SAE gross is also how engines were rated 'back in the day'. So all the old monster big blocks that were making 450+ straight from the factory were in fact a lot less powerful than todays engines.

On top of that, there were sometimes a few shenanigans being pulled back in the 60s. Like removing the air filter and testing it outside on a cold winter morning in Michigan, and possibly a few more shady things.

Like putting a completely different engine in and testing against a Ferrari.

Depends, many were underrated and #s just thrown out to confuse the insurance companies. Some were factory detuned because Auto builders new they could sell lots of easy bolt on goodies that were popular that opened up performance substantially. Here is a stock Chevy 69 427 Dyno.

In the YouTube comments section - Texas Speed reported 518 HP and 510 TQ (gross numbers - no cats - no accessories).

Stock LT1 on a gen6 Camaro is making between 385 to 400WHP on a Mustang Dyno.
410-420WHP or more on a dynojet, but they read way high
Knowing the car makes 500HP without accessories is kind of useless...have hard time believing 45Hp are lost with the accessories by the way...alternator, water pump, no hydraulic since electric power steering...

Imagine what an LT4 could do "gross" if the blower was electric from a brake-regenerative battery pack.
