What would happen if you put the discontinued I6 from the Envoy/Trailblazer in the Camaro? That engine has an awful lot of low end grunt.

If the Camaro had to be a 6, in the future, I'd want an I6 for sure.

Ironically, the sound of 4 cylinders physically dropping away and falling out onto the highway at speed is probably only marginally less annoying than the sound of the engine when switched into AFM mode.

But at least the new unconstitutionally mandated "Black Box" recorders will be watching to make sure you don't do any unapproved driving moves.

You really can't compare today's fours against those from the mid-1970's any more than you can compare the current LS engine series against the 150-ish HP V8's of the same period. If anything, some of today's fours are stronger than most of the mid-70's eights.

Yeah, I suppose the 2.3L Mustang II could be seen as a "FAIL" as seen through a drag racer's eyes. But it wasn't intended for them either then or now (unless you're going to swap an LS-something into it like I'd consider doing).

Same for highway driving. A Torque filled V8 can lope along nicely at 70MPH ar perhaps 1700RPMs, which is a lower frequency and less shrill than a I4 at the same speed which could be at 2500 or more RPMs.
Yup. The characteristic slightly choppy rumble of most V8's has undeniable appeal to all but a very few. Not everybody appreciates the "smoother" sound of a high-winding small bore engine, whether it's coming from a 4, a 6, or even an X-piped V8 . . . dunno, maybe you have to have some hands-on experience outside the V8 musclecar/ponycar/drag-race side of the hobby before you can. Think multicylinder bikes and traditional British/European sports roadsters if you'd rather not think Honda.

(aren't you lugging the engine if you're only at 1700 rpm in 4th, 5th or 6th }

A lot of people would buy a 4cyl. version, especially if it was cheaper than even the V6. My bet is that a 4 cyl. version wouldn't be your typical 4 cyl.

High MPG in a stylish American model sporty coupe, e.g. Camaro... plus it's ultimately the buyer's choice and that's not a bad option at all.

Over here, with the tax regimes and high fuel prices, a 4-cyl Camaro would definitely be a good option...

You do realize if you actually own a 2010 Camaro, it already has the black box and I doubt your life has changed one bit. It would be nice if you could post without a political slant on things.

I've heard previously that one of the main reasons for the 4 is to try and boost export sales...(Actually, I hope they export all of them)...lol

They don't have any 4 cylinder cars you can trade your ZL575 for?

You drive a Mustang GT Norm. Why aren't you on a mustang site convincing people to trade in their 5.0 for a high mpg 4 cylinder Honda version of a mustang? Just wondering what they think. Wonder how Challenger SRT8 392 drivers feel about making it a 4 cylinder?

You do realize Mustang's already probably going to an EcoBoost 4 cylinder next gen?

I've heard that. Are 5.0 owners going to trade up wholesale? Everyone seems to feel that V8's are in their way out and that turbo 4rs are the future of muscle cars.

Um, no. What everyone's saying is base V6 Camaros and Mustangs will be replaced by turbocharged 4 cylinders. There will still be V8 engines.

Again, if you want a V8, then buy a V8. Nobody's holding a gun to your head demanding you buy a 2.0T 6th gen. Jesus.

I'm waiting for one SS, GT or Challenger SRT8 owner to swap out their V8 for a 4 Cylinder. Plug and play. The 2013 hybrid civic has a nice gas and electric 4 cylinder engine that gets around 40 mpg.

Take out your LS3 or Coyote engine and drop that Honda in! If you have a 392 Hemi-- think of the gas savings and the wonderful high revving buzz of your new engine as you creep off the line, passing your neighbors toddler on his Big Wheel!:
