Custom cam, ported heads, other stuff. IT'S FINALLY FIXED.

I'm beyond excited. I was planning on going boost, but for now decided to build all motor. I'll lay out the details I have for now, but we're pushing for 500+rwhp on motor.

Car is a 2017 A8 1SS w/ NPP

Comp Cam Custom VVT grind - 224/237 .585/.579 116 (looks like he changed specs without telling me too)
Custom ported stock heads
Hooker Blackheart 1 7/8" long tubes (he did shorties and not long tubes without telling me)
Cold Air Inductions intake
Dyno tune

We're trying to keep the stock converter and keeping NPP (fuse is pulled). I'm dropping the car off next Thursday and picking it up the following Monday or Tuesday.

Awesome man.

If you aren't on e85 and with that smallish cam I don't see 500 rwhp with that build through an auto but who knows. No doubt it should run very strong and you should be happy

Good luck !

Just saw one finished at Vengeance Racing today. Ported heads, cam, long tubes, CAI, A8 car...

Picked up 100rwhp and sounded great. Cam wasn't that radical or it prob would have made more hp

Hopefully we'll see 500+! I'm staying optimistic, not on e85 yet but would like to go flex eventually. That would help but it's not in the plan this go around.

It depends on the overlap in regards to the stock torque converter. The rules have somewhat changed slightly due to the A8's really aggressive 1st and 2nd gear. Getting up in the revs quickly kinda hides the low vacuum that most performance cams produce. Only 13 degrees of split so that ain't bad. Lobe separation would be the key.. Lightweight BTR Springs could really help in your quest for 500rwhp. I would try to be in the .640-.650 lift range however....

that cam looks excellent for a fun stoplight setup.

i would say a 224 intake lobe in a LT1 would be similar to a 216-218 in a LS1...right?
depending on the LSA, im gonna guess they went around 116 to keep the revs down for the AFM lifters and it will give it a little chop to the idle, anything in that range would be doable with the stock converter.

can you give the LSA so we can see what the overlap looks like?

I like the lower lift from a long term perspective. I went through all the rocker bearing failure, spring failure, and push rod failures in the late 90s with the LS-1. Don't want to be changing that stuff every 10,000 miles....

+1 soft ramp rates and moderate lift...lessens learned from the street/track LSx days.

on a car you'll be putting miles on, if you want power, i would get it from the intake duration, but keep in mind at some point you'll driving up the overlap and be losing vacuum and drivability

116 LSA right on the money. Been out of town and just checked back on this post. Had to ask him what it was, but you were exactly right.

When are you getting this done? I am curious to the cost as well. Looks like a nice way to gain solid long term power.
