You don't paint satin black, you buy satin black wrap-prob 200 to 300 bucks to do the hood ----every wrap shop has satin black......look for 3m 1080 satin black.

And no matter what you do, matte will absorb at diff rates over a period of years, satin is the answer.

Ask for a sample......

Thanks Glen, that seems like the perfect solution for me. I just ordered a sample. Looks like exactly what I was looking for!

To follow up on this, I received a 3" x 5" sample of the 3M 1080 Satin Black vinyl wrap yesterday.

I think it would be a huge improvement over the 1LE stock matte finish wrap. It's a much deeper black. It makes the stock wrap look grayish in comparison.

Once you start comparing the 3M satin black to the other black bits on the car, you realize there are multiple shades of black on the 1LE. The stock matte finish hood wrap has no gloss at all. The window trim is matte black as well, but a slightly different shade of black. The mirrors, splitter, and spoiler are semi-gloss black. The plastic hood vents are full gloss black. The closest to the 3M satin black are the satin black wiper arms. So it's already somewhat weird that there are so many non-matching black bits on the car.

Comparison pictures showing the 3M satin black vinyl wrap sample against other black bits on the 1LE:

remember, you got ONE shade of satin vinyl, there are 10's of shades on that site, from 3m, avery, oracal, etc....

and also, in real life, no one is gonna match parts side by side, so they just have to be close.....

dont overthink this.......

No problem. I appreciate your input. Just to clarify, I have no problem with the subtle differences in shades of black - I was just pointing them out.

Like I said at the top, I think the 3M satin black would be a 100% improvement over the stock matte finish wrap. The deeper black and slight bit of shine are exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait to do it!

Just a thought, I use Adams VRT on the hood, lay it on thick, let it sit for a few then buff off and it is much closer to the rest of the Black on the car. I think it matches the spoiler very well and would save you the rewrap headache, and it hides any water spotting.

No xpel on top of the wrap. It won't work.

Are you applying it by hand or machine? It adds a little shine and doesn't look splotchy at all? Can you take a picture when you get a chance? If this works, I would consider it.

By hand with a square applicator, you just apply then overlap it so that you get full coverage. Then lightly wipe to knock down the gloss a bit. Adams has a vinyl video somewhere.

I don’t have a current pic as my hood is stripped because it’s getting rewrapped under warranty from the water spots. Let me find one from my 13.

Wizard's makes "Wipedown" a matte finish cleaner/detailer, works great on my 1le, no more spots or uneven matte/shine areas. Been using it for years on my matte finish hot rod.
