So do tell....what were the clearances before and what are they now after the change? I have to ask an serious question here; do you know the processes and procedures for setting rod, main, and pin clearances down to the thousands?

Dang, I guess if they see a WIX filter under there then I'm out also. This is why I hate dealerships, they are forcing us to use 100% factory everything so they can make more money from us. Total BS!

I understand what Whocares is asking and wanting to know from GM but this debate isn’t rocket science. IMHO if you use the grade of oil your engine requires and a good quality oil filter then your engine should be covered by the warranty if something happens to it.

That's true, the ESP is a Low-SAPS formula for improved emissions. The downside is the ESP's TBN is also lower, so it will need more frequent oil change intervals. Otherwise their specs are nearly identical.

You missed the big plot twist; Chevrolet changed the oil fill cap silkscreen from 5W-30 to 0W-40 earlier this year. The switch was officially addressed over on the Corvette Forum with an Ask Tadge response:

forgot to mention in my last post that when the dealer changed my oil to the new 0w-40w this was done on my free oil changes they gave me when I bought the car plus changed the oil cap with no additional charge. so I guess it depends on the dealership mine is awesome and didn't have any concerns over any warranty issues because of the new oil being used.

When I had my 1 free oil/filter change on my ‘19 at a dealer I inquired about the cost of the service with tax. It was roughly $158. I am not sure how much the filter cost. I assumed they were charging mostly for labor, but after seeing your post with that $130 figure, I guess not.

Actually, the 2018 manual has a different recommendation than the 2017 manual. The 2017 recommendation was synthetic blend while the 2018 recommendation was full synthetic.

2017 manual:

"Engine oil meeting the dexos1 specification of the proper SAE viscosity grade. ACDelco dexos1 Synthetic Blend is recommended."

2018 manual:

"Engine oil meeting the dexos1 specification of the proper SAE viscosity grade. ACDelco dexos1 full synthetic is recommended."

On page 259 of the 2018 manual, it further states:

"Caution
Failure to use the recommended engine oil or equivalent can result in engine damage not covered by the vehicle warranty.

Viscosity Grade
Use SAE 5W-30 viscosity grade engine oil."

I dont want this thread to turn into a pissing match on which oil is better and why, but rather an official word from chevy corporate on the use of the oil in all 2014 and newer LT1 & LT4 camaro and corvette models. Bulletin #, memo, internal direcrions to service mamagers, etc. Without that all the dealers near me said the oil is NOT approved and they will not cover me under warranty if something were to happen. That is really all I am trying to get out of this thread is to figure put what we need to do as customers to get some type of official response on this...

Most likely this will sort out in time. My guess is it's just running through all the internal departments at GM before everybody recognizes it. Dealers/customers are obviously are the last step in implementation. With a change like this, it requires a sign off of many departments. The actual GM people that work here can tell you which they are, but in my corporate experience in the car business it's at least:

engineering
product planning
sales
print shop
warranty
finance
legal
parts logistics.....

and probably one or two other departments.....

It'll work its way through the red tape and be clear about a year from now.

So I guess that leaves WalMart out to do my oil change from now on...
