There’s a couple other “dots” that line up with these that provide a clear picture of where GM is going. Or more accurately, confirms where GM is going. The plant formerly known as DHam has been re-named Factory Zero since it will produce zero emissions vehicles. The $2B mentioned above to be invested in Spring Hill to convert it to BEV production. And the announcement earlier in the month that GM has made three committed purchases of solar generated electricity to provide 100% of the electricity needs for the Wentzville, Missouri, Lansing Delta Township and Lansing Grand River plants.

Part of the deal with First Solar to provide power to those GM plants involves GM supplying the batteries that will be used for energy storage. Source of those batteries? Vehicle batteries replaced when they’ve reached the end of their useful life. Even when they are no longer suitable for vehicle use, Li-ion batteries have enough life left in them to apply towards non-automotive uses.

Solar doesn't impress me, but recycled car batteries on a large scale does. Know plenty of folks who have re-purposed them in this way for their household power needs.

It has already been done on Corvette, Porsche and others. If you're referring to the flamability of magnesium, it's not an issue in today's alloys.
