So, I too was sick of the dipstick and thought I had a solution. Never panned out: I filed and polished the non-hatched section to a mirror finish thinking it would be like the old chrome sticks. It’s no easier to read than the matte aluminum stock version.

What I have found that works is to not fully seat the dipstick, instead stopping at the o-ring. This will leave it 3/8” above fully inserted, and a “full” reading is then midway in the hatched area. At least this way, you’re looking for a full line on the flat, as opposed to round upper portion above hatched area.

I guess I am the odd man out. I don't mind it a bit. Easy to read under the fluorescent lights in the garage.

I don't mind it either. Just be sure to grease the o-ring so it wont break off like my F150.

This "Lombard Street" (San Francisco Crookedest Street in the world) tube explains why my dipstick has more oil on one side than on the other when I pull it out to read it. One side is scraping the walls and is wiping off on the way out.

Glad someone posted this, it reminded me to go and check my oil level before I started it yesterday. :-)

I find that wearing one of those headlamps when I'm checking the dipstick makes it pretty easy.

As another person posted, I can definitely read the markings way better with LED lighting rather than florescent of incandescent.

This thread surprised me, I've never had a problem with the stock dipstick.

I went out to the garage and just checked the oil. Sorry guys, I just don't get it. Dip stick is easy to pull out and push in and no difficulty at all reading the oil level. I check the oil in all my vehicles the same way. They sit all night and I pull the stick. No need to even wipe it off.

This gives everything a chance to drain down. I then reinsert the dipstick, leave for XX seconds and then pull. This usually gives a better reading. It is a bit of a pain, but it seems to give me a reading fairly consistently. (someone else posted this method and I flat stole it)
Dam....it does give you a better reading! Thanks for the tip.

I don't have an issue with the dipstick but it may be another reason why people buy challengers as they have the flat metal type that some like. Like others have posted I have a led head lamp that is 1000 lumen on high lasts 6 hrs on high 35 hours on low when new simply awesome to work with and has a 7yr warranty.

I highly doubt the type of dipstick enters into the thought process of buying one car over another. Maybe not having one like BMWs, but I still doubt it.
