That's what's so silly about magazine racing in the 10ths of a second.

Now 2 or 3 seconds apart. Forget it. That car is just faster.
I also wonder if they just record one random lap and that's it. As the member that was at the track on here, he said they were lapping the cars a lot...so I doubt those times are just one and done?

I doubt it. You need a lap just to warm the tires up. I think the times they take are RP's best lap. That's why I put all those cars within a second of each other at basically the same time. Give him long enough in each car he may beat the time again. Or not, and maybe best the time posted from a different car.

I know they have warm up laps, come on now lol...I mean I wonder if they drive these cars for days, and then just take the best lap from that. Or is it practice, practice, here is your timed lap, make it a good one.

I wish they would explain how THEY do it a little better. As street tires can get greesy and fall off after too many laps too.

Hmmm....good question. I remember one H2H it might even have been the 5th gen z/28 where they said the rubber was just about shot by the time the did the timed lap.
They probably all get to play with them a bit and then RP gets a warm up lap or two and they hit the timer. That would be my guess. Maybe if he really fargs it up they give him another.
I'd like to know as well now.

He probably runs several laps, like a session at a weekend track day, then just use the best one for the video. Notice they all start being timed from a lap at full speed.

Randy could probably run that track blind-folded. It's probably the best format for comparison and times. I don't see how it could get any "closer". You can dig up minute details forever, but they won't have much, if any, impact.

They take the best of three laps.

Warm up lap, then three timed laps, then cool-down. That's the format they use.

Yep! I think it's more or less the way Randy does his thing haha even when I was there late in the day and they had already finished all of the official timed laps. Randy hoped in the car with Aaron Link and was like "can somebody time us?" He was going full bore for the first two laps but on lap three got sideways as hell coming through turn three (we couldn't see it but could hear it haha) so he call it quits and started cool-down early haha

I didn't either. Makes sense. I always wondered how they configured the test since most street cars can suffer brake fade or overheated tires rather quickly on track.

FYI I have updated the original post with some reference hot laps from past years.

In the video they mention he's run a 1:28 there and holds the production car track record, but in the BDC format he didn't get as many shots at a perfect lap.

That's what I was getting at earlier. That's a 3 second spread same driver same car same track. (granted it's a different day). So for the spread between the 1LE and the 350R people are saying "well over 10 laps it's 10 seconds and that's huge". But it may not be 10 seconds in fact the 1LE may take the 350 on some laps. I think on that particular track it's a drivers race.
To me all these cars are within striking distance of each other at LS.
Shelby GT350R
Acura NSX
Porsche 911 Carrera s
Nissan GT-R
BMW M4 GTS
Chevy Camaro SS 1LE
Jag F-Type SVR = 1:38.75

No I don't have an actual point I'm just saying stuff...
