Cyl no,2 black soot on spark plug......missfire
yep,,,it happend after a little pull,,,, sure.... it will not be a foul plug,,or coil.....check engine flash at idle..( not always)..runs good when acceletating ,,,..no smoke..no overheating..no codes...its a ls3 engine ,,no DOD
for now ive change plugs,,,,no luck...check valve springs,,they are ok..swap coil wires,,nothing,,, tomorrow will swap coils and hope for the best,,,, after that will check compression,,,if its good,,,will swap injectors,,to see if problem fallows...i did a quick look at injectors coil and ground wiring and all ok so what else could it be,,,? burnt valves or obstruct by carbon build up crack piston,,hum ,,hope not bad rings...well no smoke head gasket,,,maybe not... bent pushrod ,,, no noise..rocker not loose bad cam.. no noise bad lifter,,no noise bad injector maybe,,, any input will be appriciated,,,will update thank you --- Edit --- there is a intermittent metalic tapping ,squeaking..noise that i did not hear at the moment ...mostly wen reving in neutral....going towards bad lifter...and cam ( probably a lifter that gone sideways in the tray...)

I agree the next step would be the injector swap, if no change then compression test.
Let us know what you find. |

Nice work. This is the pinnacle of knowing your car and responding appropriately. Great catch and she lives for another day.

Awesome find!! This all goes to "knowing" your car and what's going on, AND not pushing it past the point "of no return", causing more damage. Good job sir!!

Here's some pics of the cam..its a LPE GT9..its not so bad.. probably could be reusable with a good polish...but will still go with the BTR stg 3

Yeah, I wouldn't use that one anymore. You could try a polish on the lobe, but I think in doing that as far as it has been damaged, you would risk the chance of taking off more material, just enough to get the lobe in that "soft area" of the metal that hasn't been heat treated to withstand the friction and load, and then you have another problem. Put the new one in and don't look back. Just my .02 dealing with engine internals in the past.

Awesome. Yeah I have seen what can happen when you re-use internals that people second guessed on, wasn't pretty, and since you have it all apart, might as just do like we always say, "do it right" once, and be done with it and enjoy the "piece of mind" it's all new. Good luck with your build!!
