14 MPG

Hey guys, so yes its another MPG thread

So my car is getting 14mpg Thought it would be a small thing that would pass but its been this way for about the last 3 monthes of its driving cycle. Its stored currently but I guess the last month of driving did have winter blend fuel. Without winter blend I would say it was about 15-16 mpg.

The car was driven the same way it was before and it was achieiving 21mpg
The car now has 50,000km (31,000 miles)
I havnt changed the plugs yet, I did do a seafoam treatment back in September.

Mods on the Car are the following
Vararam
Solo Cat Back
Black ICE
All these mods were installed years ago so dont think I can blame the mods.

SO heres my dilemma, im not sure where to start to isolate the issue for the terrible MPG.

Heres my possible problem areas:

Air leak on the manifold from the black ice?
Bad plugs
Maf Sesor? (it may have gotten sea foam on it)

I mean I dont know what else can cause it to be soo bad. This has occurred through several tanks of gas.

Also want to say sorry in advance for the structure of this post, lack of sleep.

Is there anything else that could be causing it?
No CELs, no mis fires that I can feel, and yes I did the usual checks such as tire pressures, air filter etc.

Any help or input would be very much appreciated

Ps anyone know how to test the manifold for leaks? Ive heard of smoke methods

Last time you cleaned your air filter?

To check for leaks, spray around the manifold with some carb cleaner... see if the idle changes.

Get some MAF cleaner and clean the MAF.

Then check after a couple of tank fulls of new fresh gas and make sure your checking the MPG correctly. Any one tank can give you miss readings. If you did not fill it the same everytime. I know becasue I have every tank full recorded and see the numbers jumping around depending on the total fill up, how it was driven, temperature plays a huge roll too.

Yeah I've cleaned the air filter and it was still getting bad mpg
I have a feeling it could be a leak in the manifold so I'll try your method! Thanks alot John
And the maf I think is my problem. Going to bring the sensor into work and clean it
Thanks again!

Yeah I'm sure there were some inconsistencies with driving and gas but it's been averaging about the same 14-15mpg for a few monthes before I stored her. So now that she's coming out of storage soon I want to get it taken care of and handled

Thanks alot for your input guys. Car won't be out for a few weeks but definitlt going to start trying to tackle the problem

Thanks for the feedback, going to update this thread in a few weeks hopefully with some imptoved numbers

Alright guys took apart my Vararam filter

The lower belly is covered inthick grime from the seafoam and dirt passing through the filter

So going to clean it all and the maf and hope it helps

I guess it finally proves how much dirt is passing through the oiled filter :o

The Vararam is supposed to be oiled. From that video I'm not sure if it was oiled or not. That was a lot of dirt passing through.
