There is no way to find out what the allocation is unless a a dealer tells you. As far as dealer personnel not understanding the system, that's true, sales managers want to sell what's on the ground now, not what can be ordered. So many times they keep the allocation system in their pocket. Many salesmen don't understand it, nor will ever get involved with it. Some of the senior salesman there may know more, and that's why I always ask for the most senior sales person and/or the person who specializes in Camaros And Corvettes.
One of the worst business practices the dealer can do , is for the sales manager to say to a salesman "you write the order and I'll try and get the car." But it happens 1000 times a day You may get good information out of a dealer if you go see the general sales manager, or the general manager. Tell them you are ready to buy right now, contract it now you have your financing & insurance, just looking to order a car. Forget everybody below these two positions , they're just trying to make the month.

Thanks for the cars.com suggestion, what I am looking for is not yet available, but I did setup an email alert so we'll see what happens.
The allocation system is definitely not in favor of the customer. The first rule of being in business is to make money. You do that by separating the customer from their money as efficiently as possible. When you have a system in place that hinders that from happening, there's a flaw that needs adjusting. A customer should not be forced to contact an out of state dealer just to buy your product that his in town dealer is perfectly authorized to sell him, but can't because the rules say he didn't sell enough last year. |

Well I've had an interesting 24 hrs. Had a conversation yesterday with my original order dealer, who had said since the beginning that he thought he could get one ordered, and his region rep. The rep pretty much popped our bubble by saying there was no way we were getting it ordered...no allocation, too much demand, A10's were not being produced yet, didn't sell enough camaros last year, etc. After the rep left the conversation, the dealer said that his rep had changed from the last guy in Jan. He never specifically asked the old rep about ZL1 allocation, so we didn't have anything to argue with. I told him to keep the order active in case we got leftover allocation at the end of the cycle (way long shot, but no reason not to try). So at this point my hopes were dashed and I spent the evening contacting a few more dealers way out of town to try something before the cycle closed. No luck by 10pm, so I gave up and resigned myself to other options going forward.
This morning I decided to have Becky check the status before I gave up on it entirely, something said to check, and wow...couldn't believe it, but it was picked up overnight at the end of the cycle. Big time jaw drop. I spoke to the dealer today who was just as shocked, he didn't know how it happened, I don't know how it happened, nobody knows how it happened. But it did. Maybe they had allocation after all, but how did the sales manager, owner, and region rep miss it? If they didn't have it then they got it somehow late. Maybe from unused list? Or maybe Chevy increased production numbers? Either way...I'm all smiles! |

Congrats Shawdow77! Looks like I wasn't the only lucky one to get an order picked up out of thin air this week.

That's great news! Congrats.
Tell me about this cycle close? What does that mean? Like I commiserated in my earlier response, the dealer that doesn't apparently honor his appointments, had submitted the two allocations they had already, but thought we had a week to get the specs changed to what I wanted. Does a cycle close mean that is no longer the case?

Wow! My local dealer texted me this morning. Went to 2000 than 3000 status.
Verified with Becky. I gave up on my dealer because he said he had no allocations but can still get one. I even put down a deposit on a confirmed allocation in Lewisville,TX. My dealer said it helps to have connections. Whatever the reason I am glad I got it. There is an open allocation in Texas. Payton is great and had no issues. Thanks for all the help on this forum.
