Vert and Coupe Difference

I have an interesting “discussion” here, I was wondering if anyone drove the Camaro convertible and coupe back to back, or at least drove both? I have the SS convertible and I personally think it handles great with no wobbling. Let’s see what everyone has to say here.......

The biggest difference is trunk space. Also, the vert has extra bracing under neath. It weighs more. I test drove both cars in 2021. Yes, I loved the SS. But settled on ordering a 2022 Vert RS. But me being 73YRS old I love the 6cyl. I don't need the power or speed over 110. I'm glad I did with the price of gas, also tires last longer. If you were to track it the couple would hold the road better.

The SS and ZL1 convertibles handle awesome. I owned both and now a LT1. The main difference for street use…the weight. The LT1 coupe feels like a rocket for quick bursts (in the city) as compared to both the ZL1 and SS convertible. Once your moving, there’s not much of a difference in perceptible acceleration, compared to the SS. The ZL1 is another matter… silly fast and handles better( particularly at high speeds) with its massive summer tires and other accoutrements.

I am not sure about the SS but with the ZL1 you lose the eLSD option because of the bracing. You also lose the PDR with the convertible.

you can't track a convertible unless you install a roll bar.

The convertible SS has a factory speed limiter at 155, coupe is 180. Never drove the convertible, I have no interest in verts, especially soft tops like the 6th gen camaro. They are fragile, prone to accelerated wear and tear, cabin seal and water filtration into cabin issues. Cant track the vert without a roll bar drag or road course. Cons greatly outweigh the pros with rag top verts in my opinion. Coupe all day.

That’s pretty close, but if comparing auto transmissions, it looks like it may be closer to 250lbs, coupe auto verse convertible auto (SS).

SS coupe verse ZL1 convertible is a whopping 450lbs.

Aren’t you a ray of sunshine…Camaro convertibles are awesome. Whether you like them or not doesn’t matter and isn’t helpful at all to the thread.

The only negative from my perspective is the weight and even then, these car are so overpowered for “most” people, it’s not a factor at all. I really loved both of mine.. I just couldn’t use enough up here to make it worth the idle $.

Well, that is my conclusion from being in other people's rag tops over the last 30 years in my location. They seem to not fair too well with the extreme heat, weather and humidity in this location. That cool wind in your hair sensation must feel like climaxing for you huh?

Convertibles and coupes attract two different types of driver/owners. I don't track, don't race, and am keenly aware of my driver limitations. Both of my sporty cars are for touring and summer fair weather cruising. My days of rocking the drag strip or the oval are long since gone. As a result the convertible fits the bill and puts a smile on my face. Either my Grand Sport for certain days and on others the Camaro. I am looking forward to my new ZL1 convertible. That will build a bigger smile I do believe.

I agree. And I'm not the convertible type for many reasons already mentioned. No offense to those who enjoy them.

I guess I'm most perplexed though by anyone who wants/has a ZL1 convertible. Why do you need all that power to just cruise around? A standard SS has more than enough power for cruising and accelerating briskly. And costs considerably less.
