What with smart phone's with google maps and apple maps. Hard to tell why anyone would even need ONSTAR for Nav

I had my car out for the first time this year a couple of weeks ago and noticed the year didn't change on the date. Could this 3G stuff be the reason? I don't use any of the electronic gadgets in this car (PTM excluded of course) so completely ignorant.

My Camaro did this a couple times when I had my battery disconnected for any extended length of time. When hooked back up it reverted back to the original power up date of 2010, when it was built, had to reset it..

Little known fact with onstar, there is a battery backup that is activated if the car battery is disconnected. Once the onstar batt is activated it can't be turned off and has a life of aprox 4 years.

That's true except, if the ignition is in the off position and the retained power is not active the OnStar back up battery will not activate. So basically, key out, open and close the drivers door before disconnecting the car battery.

I will explain this one more time.....Nz2ssrs has a EXPORT Camaro. Export Camaro's do not have a telematics communication interface control module (OnStar) which is required for hands free calling. His car does not support this feature.

lol, reminds me of another thread where OP was complaining about the POWDERCOATED towhook he bought was fading over time and the many responses he got to just repaint it.

My apologies, not trying to hijack the thread, was responding to Fanboy Camaro, who stated he did not believe you could make Bluetooth calls on a 2012 Camaro. I understand that the opp is talking about Onstar.

Yep, there are a lot of differences between export models and what we have here......from emission equipment, lighting, safety equipment, to optional content. And if your not aware it's a export model, working on these will throw you for a loop! Ask me how I know....military people especially bring these cars back, bring them in and never say a word!

hey paulsSS, i feel ya brother, took my service manual and found the onstar module and the 4 year back up battery and disconnected and removed it to a shelf in my garage. been a while i took the lan pair put a twist in them.{ because they have to have 10 twists per foot} for i guess the proper comunications between the rest of the modules. no codes thrown and the mirror lights went dark. had onstar righting me letters saying that they could not communicate with my vehicle. i thought dam right you can't and i like it that way. will the cancel of the 3G have an effect on the pandora, or the other stereo apps?
