Today mine reached 260 degrees while going 80mph, outside temp of 102, rpm was about 2800-2900, rear end gear 3.91. Coolant temp was 200-205. How bad is this?

Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't 250 like the optimal temp for full synthetic oils to run at their peak performance? Of course, again, depending on the brand. Or maybe this only pertains to street bikes?

I was a little concerned because the DIC goes to 270, so at 260 I slowed my speed to drop the rpm and cooled the oil down to around 250. I use mobile 1 synthetic 5-30.

Chevy has really missed the boat in the manual. It is ashame that they take the time to produce a manual, provide a few pages on oil temp and pressure, coolent temp and pressure etc........yet don’t bother to tell you what is normal depending on general operating conditions. Instead they tell you that you will get a warning light.

I wish chevy would get people that actually drive cars to design them. People that buy Corvettes and Camaros want the detail. Not lights. The information is there so why not put it in the manual?

Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Oil Temps are Calculated - not actual temp.

Have to get the word out about 5th gen oil temps, at least in the LS3. It's a calculated oil temp, not actual.

I have a E38 LS3 ECU on my bench, with a crank and cam signal simulator, along with few other sensors like Clt, IAt, etc. No engine! Definitely no oil temp sensor connected here.

When I connected power it starts at a default 25F oil temp with CLT at 70F and 2200rpm, as time goes on oil temp increases quickly, and increasing CLT to 230F causes Oil Temp to also increase, however the biggest thing I noticed was increasing RPM... This caused Oil Temp to sky rocket.

I used HPTuners for this.

Very interesting. I have an Android head unit that I run Torque Pro on, with a screen dedicated to fuel trims, trans fluid temp, oil temp, etc...I wonder if trans fluid temp is also calculated.

Every day driving, my oil temp runs right at 224-226 on the DIC.
I have hit 266 on the DIC at the track, at VIR with the long straightaways there.
Run Mobile 1 5-30. Water temp never gets above 210. Factory T-stat.
88K miles been good.
