LT1/RS or 1SS?

I'm hearing GM's plans for the Camaro are uncertain after the 2023 MY. I'd like to have a 6th gen before they're gone. This wouldn't be a primary car for me, just something for fun and nice weather days. I don't want to spend a mint on it.

I'm stuck wondering if I'd regret not getting an SS.
And I can't decide between auto or manual. I've driven manual for years and years but GM's 10-speed is so good.

I like the front fascia of the SS better, but, it's just a bumper cover. What am I not thinking of?

Despite the loss of performance, I'd rather have all-season tires. I live on a gravel drive and summer tires make the gravel stick to them. How hard am I really going to push this car on the street -- not very.

Thoughts?

At the end of the day you are buying the car for yourself so choose the transmission that you would use but just know that in the future that's not going to be the transmission that people are looking for if youre looking to help the resale value down the line.

One of the dealerships I went to had a 1SS 1LE that's been sitting there because it's an automatic while the manuals are flying off the lots.

When I saw it I was like why is this sitting here maybe I'll buy it, then the salesman said it was an automatic and I wasn't surprised why it sat.

Tick a couple of options like the RS package and it's already close to the price of a 1SS with all the drivetrain cooling and better tires/wheels.

I've already locked away my V8 manual, so super happy about that.

I bought mine to be a fair-weather fun cruiser. I love the sound of the V-8, so I chose the 6-speed LT-1. I don't use it on the track or drag race people on the street. Mine will stay stock for a while, I am very happy with it. I actually prefer the non-RS/SS headlights better, I don't like the "frying pan" shaped LED lights. I like the quad style LEDs on the LT facia the best.

Best way go about a LT1 is to buy a manual with no options like I did. Saved thousands doing it this way (pre pandemic). I would rather get a 1SS instead of an LT1 with options. The allure of the LT1 is lost if it costs the same or more than a 1SS. Transmission choice is personal, I can't own an automatic sports car, too boring for me. I like the automatic much more for a truck. Good luck.

An LT1 with the tech package/bose premium audio (not available on the 1ss) is very compelling.
You can throw in the RS package if you want. Even recaros.
If you aren't going to go to the track or strip I think it is a great option.

The Bose system is one thing I wish was available on the 1SS. Not sure why it's only offered as an option on the LT1 and not the 1SS.

Agreed. Base LT1, or 1SS if you plan on options is the only way it makes sense. It's why I couldn't pull the trigger on a $40k LT1. I'm glad I waited.

As a side note, the SS insurance is a bit more as well compared to a LT!.

To this day I never understood that but yeah if you want BOSE and don't want a 2SS you will have to get the LT1.

I am happy with my rs v6 manual but the Bose radio is nothing to brag about.

My LT1 is loaded up higher than a base 1SS but its exactly what I wanted and I prefer the base front fascia to the SS.

I have no regrets not getting a 1SS.

I like my '22 with the Bose system. The bigger screen does look way better though with the tech package.

For what it's worth, the new Bose in the '19+ cars is said to be much improved over the original '16-'18 implementation. I'm not particularly impressed by the sound quality of the Bose in my 2018, but then I'm not an audiophile and usually listen to the engine instead anyway.
