I do not think that Pirelli dh scrubs will be faster than SC3R’s on this car, as the chassis was specifically designed and shocks tuned for that rubber. But curious to see, if you can beat the previous time on these tires.

I just wanna make sure I understand correctly what all changed here. This was a swap to the BMW suspension components in your original post, swapping to Apex wheels and going back to the OEM tires and it dropped 5 seconds?

I changed out the OEM sway bar end links with BMR front and rear links. I lowered the front ride height 3mm by taking 2 full turns of preload out (OEM settings is full stiff with approx. 10mm of thread showing). I installed Rear Cradle front Braces, and also swapped out the OEM Drivetrain Tunnel brace to the BMR Steel unit.

On July 18th I went back to NJMP Thunderbolt with these mods and SC3R and ran a 1:29.25 which was 4 seconds faster than my 1:33.31 that I ran back on May 30th with the stock setup on the Supercar 3Rs.

*Rear Sway bar is set to the stiffest setting.

**I DID NOT USE MY APEX SM-10 WITH PIRELLI SLICKS. I will do that in the future and see if I can drop more time. If I can't, then I will buy new slicks and give it another go. I predict that I will eventually settle in the 1:26-1:28 lap time range at NJMP Thunderbolt with the car set up the way it is now and fresh slicks.

***I DID NOT PURCHASE BMR CONTROL ARMS AND TOE RODS. I felt that was overkill and the car would not benefit. The Sway bar links really transformed the car for me to be quite honest.

Amrish (fellow forum member) ran the Pirelli DH last Monday on some new wheels he bought and he said he wasn't impressed. he corded the front left tire after only 1 day of use. It left us both scratching our heads as people swear by Pirelli DH Take-offs. I may have only be running 1-2 seconds faster than he was. I'm waiting to hear from him regarding his data.

I'm gonna run mine too and if I get to the track next time and they suck I'll just buy some discounted Hoosiers A7 from the trackside vendor to set fast laps.

Copy that. Thanks for the clarification.

Here's some data regarding consistency:

May 30th Final Session Lap Times (OEM Car & SC3R Tires)
Fastest Trap Speed: 135.4mph
1:36.27
1:36.30
1:36.29
1:35.69
1:34.51
1:34.64
1:35.52
1:34.13
1:35.16
1:33.31*****

July 18th Final Session Lap Times (BMR Tweaks & SC3R Tires)
*Fastest Trap Speed: 147mph
1:32.77
1:32.04
1:31.62
1:31.17
1:31.02
1:30.07
1:33.19
1:31.42
1:29.51
1:30.00
1:29.89
1:29.24
1:30.94
1:31.30
I got into a rhythm and almost ran four 1:29 laps consecutively.

*All Data was recorded via GPS.
**Fastest laps of the day for both outings occurred during the final session on worn tires with approximately 160 track miles logged on the day.
*** I ordered a Strut Tower Brace as well but it was back ordered and has not arrived yet.
****The discrepancy in highest trap speeds was due to my drive out of turn 12. Back in May I could only apex turn 12 at 103mph. On July 18th I was able to carry 112mph at the apex.

It depends on which rubber you compare the dh slicks to. For example, some people were running regular road tires like ps4s and then install dh slicks on the second set of wheels and yeah they are faster. But properly inflated and heated up to temp SC3R can match the time of those slicks or even be faster. DH slicks are also very dangerous when cold, so do not push it hard for the first 2 laps. The A7 would be faster, as it is a much softer compound.

Thanks for the tips. I only plan to run the DH in the summertime. I'll probably switch to A7 for Sept-Nov Track days. The car should be running better in those cooler temps too so I hope to run a 1:25 before the end of the year.

Honestly, even the GY3R might not be the best option for cooler Fall weather. Might go back to PS4S, the Hankooks (hahahaha), or the A7.

Great job on the times and improvement!

Just to hear your thoughts, what made you choose these specific changes? Such as, why front cradle brace but not the back, or both? Why the tunnel brace? Based on any recommendations? How did you choose BMR over SPL, or anyone else?

Again, great job!

I was running the slicks. In retrospect *i think* the fronts were already heat cycled out. I did not have front end grip. I have one more set of fronts that i will try before giving up on slicks and going back to 3r (which i love). I was also trying 18” for the first time (BC forged) and the lightness of the wheels definitely was noticeable.

Thanks

I have yet to mount my new wheels. Per the manufacturer, since the offset is correct for this car there is no grinding of any kind. It should be bolt-on-n-go!
