Tire marbles

Hi, I have been chasing a wobble on my steering wheel for months now and I think I may have figured it out. After a track day last fall I noticed my steering wheel would shake between 65-75. All suspension is checked and even replaced a control arm a couple weeks ago that had play but I still have the vibration. Can the marbling you see on my front tires be the reason it’s shaking? I checked for a missing wheel weight but all the weights seem to be in place. If the marbling can cause my tires to be out of balance should I do the following:

1) pictured are my front summer wheel and tire set, stock SS 1le wheels.
2) can I mount the 285/30/20 ss 1le front wheels on the back of the car and mount my stock rear SS wheels in the front (275-35-20)?
3) I heard your traction control light can come on and stay on if I do something like this. Will I have to take it to the dealer to get reset or will putting the appropriate tire sizes back on fix it?

The reason I want to do the above is flooring it in first gear took the marbling off the rear so I figured it would do the same for the front tires if I can mount them in the back and mount my stock rear wheels in the front (I have an ss non 1le).

You can not put whatever wheel where you want to. You must consider the offset of the wheel. With the Camaro's huge brakes, there is little room for error.

Put the correct size on the car, sorry.

Thanks. I totally forgot about that. Maybe I’ll just pull the front tires off and try to scrape them off with a plastic scraper. Other things I read are driving in the rain. Unfortunately it’s been months since this marbling was put on so I don’t know if that will work (car doesn’t see rain so it has not been driven in the rain with the marbling)

Worry less about the tire boogers.

They'll come off the 1st couple good turns

Marbles scan stick to the inside of each wheel when it is hot. You can scrape them off quickly with a plastic razor blade or plastic putty knife. A few hard turns on the street should clean off the marbles from your picture, or you could use a razor blade to do it manually (and a heat gun might be needed).

You can also have the balance checked on each wheel to see if that is the actual issue vs. something else. Your symptom could also be caused by a bent wheel which would be detected while checking the balance. Most minor bends can be repaired by an alloy wheel repair specialist using a torch, big hammer, dial gauge, and foot operated hydraulic device.

A wet skidpad will also remove OPR (Other People's Rubber). It really doesn't look like much from your picture, probably not enough to cause a severe vibration IMO.

My vote would be tire balance. Tires rotate on the wheels, pretty easy to throw the balance off. My Apex wheels have a knurled edge and the tires still spin on the rim.

Do you use the curbs when on track?

Might be a bent wheel. Clean off the marbles and get rebalanced.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I am going to pull the front wheels off and manually clean the marbles. I might try driving in the rain before that though.

I didn’t hit any curbing on track so I don’t think I bent a wheel.

If it still shakes after cleaning off the marbles I will get them road forced balanced.

Whenever I leave the track I scrub them real hard on the back roads to clean them while they are still warm. I also use the cool down lap to scrub em and I try and stay in the groove so not to pick up the chunks.
