Charging system failure could be belt tensioner.
I threw a charging system failure check engine light and thought it was probably my 6 yr old battery. Actually, the serpentine belt tensioner blew out and the belt was slipping. Heads up, if your charging system fails pull over in case it is the tensioner as the belt also spins the water pump.

Can you explain the photo a bit?
The rubber boot area looks different old vs new. Did spring break inside old unit? |

I replaced my serpentine belt tensioner quite early on, at about 8k miles. I noticed that oil was leaking out of the rubber boot, but I didn't have any other issues. Now at 25k miles and there are no visible leaks yet.
The one to the right in the photo looks like a new design. (EDIT): Link to old thread: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=558883 |

Could you hear the belt slipping or see any damage to the belt?
Wondering if I have the same problem, but no evidence |
