Hood seems very lose at high speeds

Hey guys,

I went to Mexico the other day and was driving at high speeds and at 125+ mph I noticed that my hood started shaking, rattling, vibrating however you want to call it. This became worse and worse and at 150+ I stopped because I was scared the hood will pop open.

When I drive my moms Hyundai Hatchback at 120 mph on the Autobahn in Germany the hood moves less than on my Camaro SS? Seems odd

Does anybody else have experience with this? Probably just going to buy some hood pins and call it a day. But I believe most hood pins require drilling (?), so are there other ways to ensure safety at those speeds?

If you don't drive 150+ on the streets there is 100% chance the hood won't move around. Even then, it's aluminum so it will move some.

Quite the road trip you had there from Naples to Mexico.

I had an issue with hood misalignment. It was at normal freeway speeds. I could clearly see a lot of movement from the hood and it was more than startling. My hood was also raised slightly above the front fascia, probably 3/16" at least. I took it into the dealer and had them realign the hood. It's now much better.

I believe some deformation of the hood is normal. I have read that this is one reason why the 1LE has the black wrapped hood, so that it masks the visual distraction of the vibrating or slightly deforming hood. I'm not sure if this was the full intent of the design, but it makes sense to me based on the distraction I've had with my 2SS hood.

Haha this^^

Yeah, Mexico it was!

As said above, if following speed limits, there won't be problem

At the track thought it is another story!

The rubber bumpers that the hood rests on are adjustable. Clockwise lowers them and counterclockwise raises them. You could try adjusting it to your liking. I had the nose off mine for my old supercharger kit, so had to set them upon reinstall of the nose. I set it so the hood is not above the nose, tried to have a natural progression from nose to hood so the air would not try to go under the hood. Afterward, ran the car at 170+ on a race course and did not notice any problem with the hood.
