Last question about oil

I need to fill some oil after 550 firsts miles.
I think I’m gonna change thé oil at 1200/1500 miles.

Thé oil to fill is a 0w40.
For thé moment I drive more in Town and open road (55 a 80 miles/h) but no track... i will wait for lapping done

In France thé brands aren’t the same and sometimes there are not the same indexes.

So here are thé 5 french brands :

Castrol mobile motul elf total

What is the best ?
The indexes are more common in 5w40 or 5w30 is it good oil ? Can I fill it with that oil on order to make thé level ?
Thanks guys

The car calls for 0w-40 Mobil 1 ESP Formula. However, I would think as long as you use an oil that is Dexos 2, you will be okay. I believe this is still the cheapest place to purchase it.

The Owner's Manual mentions 5W30 for the street so I run Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic 5W-30 dexos 1

I changed my oil 2 weeks ago and put in Lucas 5w30 synthetic. Of course I don’t track my ZL1 and it’s a 2017 which doesn’t call for 0w40.

This is what you need. Quick google search shows it should be available in France.

Since you are in Europe, I believe Castrol Edge 0W-40 should work for you. The Castrol Edge in North America is different(A3/B4), for some weird reason, and is only DEXOS 1 Gen 2 compliant. Just make sure you double check the Castrol Edge 0W-40 sold there and see if it meets DEXOS 2, which should be a blue symbol, not a green one.

Here is a list of all the oil that meets the DEXOS 2 standards:

https://www.gmdexos.com/brands/dexos2/index.html

Looks like you guys get the A3/B4 as well. Make sure you pick the right one, not the A3/B4 one.

You need an oil with an HTHS > 3.5 which is Dexos 2, ACEA A3, or C3. C3 is preferred (part of Dexos2 spec) because it is mid-SAPs meaning less potential for intake valve deposits and longer catalytic converter life.

Everything that I read tells me these cars should be using dexos 1 Gen2 oils, not dexos 2 oils, which are for diesel engines which have to pass a low speed stochastic pre-ignition (LSPI) test.

When you don't see Mobil 1 and Pennzoil's best racing oils on the dexos 2 list...

For example, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 - GM dexos1:GEN2 Licensed - is for modern gasoline-powered vehicles (even those with high-performance, turbocharged, supercharged, multi-valve or fuel-injected engines

On my 19, the owner's manual says the V8 uses DEXOS 2 oil while the non-V8 engines use DEXOS 1 Gen 2. Lots of dealers also get confused as well by this because, like you said, DEXOS 2 was initially developed for diesel engines.

I believe GM has stated that this recommendation retroactively applies to all LT1-equipped vehicles.

Sent from toaster or something

I dropped mine at the dealer earlier today and told her to use 5W30 dexos 1 Gen 2 and she said we normally use 0W40 dexos 2 so I said (to myself), wtf?

0W40 dexos 2 is the correct oil for your car.
