1st time ZL1 owner, should I invest in a radar detector?
My first camaro ever, first time ZL1 owner, wondering if I should invest in a good radar detector for when I take delivery in a few weeks
Guess it will boil down to my self-control to stay off the accelerator. Is that possible in a ZL1? |

Yes. No. It looks like you are in Virginia. Last time I knew, they were illegal there. Be careful.

I have one. Saved me a few times. If anything it lets me know if they are around or not. I dont really get crazy but you can fall victim to losing track of how fast you're going. I bought an escort MAX 360c. I love the arrows on it because it lets me know where the alert is coming from. Also they now sell a dash cam that uses the same power cord and mount. Its a little expensive but its saved me a couple times. Those couple times would have cost me the fine and court cost and being on deferred. Always a mess to get a ticket.

Waze is actually blocked in certain areas of Virginia, especially the Southern parts. It works just fine in Northern; however Hampton, Newport News, Virginia Beach are blocked.
Radenso Pro M and Escort Redline EX are both undetectable. I have my Radenso hardwired and hidden in the upper passenger side sun visor. Yes radar detectors ARE illegal in Virginia and you do take the chance. Police have the ability of telling if you have a detector or not, but again the top mentioned are undetectable by police radar.

Thanks and yes, Virginia is one of the last or the last state radar detectors are still illegal.
What would be worse a speeding ticket or "possessing a radar detector" ticket? Guess that depends on how many MPH over the speeding ticket is for. I may take a closer look at these if they are truly undetectable: Radenso Pro M Escort Redline EX Staples87, do you ever drive the Z in VA? |

You are in a tough spot. As I understand it in Virginia, 10 over is felony reckless driving, and yet radar detectors are illegal there and most can be detected by radar detector detectors.
Vortex Radar is a good YouTube channel for this sort of stuff, as he actually tests all the latest detectors in real world situations. I have a Uniden R3 which is great. I was able to cruise between 90 and 110 yesterday on both mountain back roads and the Interstate (In Mexico, of course) and I got excellent warnings. It has never failed to detect radar for me. Good Luck Last edited by Mark R; 08-19-2019 at 11:19 AM. |

Waze + common sense is better than a detector (when laser is the cop's tool of choice). The $300-$500 can be spent on other mods. If you try to defeat laser, you are talking $2000+ after installation. How much is a ticket?

Laser is extremely rare. Most police radar is KA. I feel naked when driving without my Escort. I have a couple year old Max2. I can’t imagine how many times my detector has saved me over the years. Tons of advanced warning. Too bad you’re in VA, sounds like the apps might be your best bet.
