P10e4 Code?

So my car has been throwing a random (typically clears itself after it sits and I restart it) code the last week or so. Car otherwise runs just fine whether it's on or not.

I finally pulled it and it comes up as P10e4 in the Torque app from my Bluetooth OBDII adapter.

I can find literally no information on this code aside from being associated with a relay on BMW Valvetronic engines which I obviously don't have.

Can anyone shed some insight on this one?

Thanks!

Go to Car parts store or your dealer and have them check?

Torque app may not be reading right.

Well crap I literally bought it (the OBDII Adapter) so I could pull the history since apparently (as I found out) the car parts store can't pull it unless it's currently lit, and it tends to not stay on very long.

Any mods?

Ignition On/Start Circuit Source Bypass Relay Control Performance

This is the description on Alldata. Not sure what it means.

Rotofab, Weapon-X ported TB and the ADM intercooler expansion tank. Drove several hundred miles with those mods without issue though, but I've certainly considered it could be the culprit...I just wish the code was more descriptive.

That makes about as much sense as the Valvetronic description haha.

Question, for anyone else, when you put the car in accessory mode by holding the start button for about 5 seconds, does the check engine light stay on and only go out when you actually start the car?

I started reading a little more on it and it appears that it has to do with the signal to a relay coil upon pressing the start button.

P10E4

Control Circuit = Out Of Range — For greater than 1 s

Hmm, sounds like maybe a factory defect of some kind and not necessarily anything related to the mods. I wonder if pulling the NPP fuse could be related? Maybe they added a related DTC for 2019? I thought there wasn't one on previous years.

Or maybe the TB if it had an issue with the actuator? The car runs exactly the same whether the CEL is on or not which is the weird thing.

I would unplug and plug back in the starter relay. I’ve seen weird stuff like this over the years. I can’t explain it but I’ve seen it fix weird problems like this many times over my career. Just a thought and a simple try.

Is that accessible from underneath the car relatively easily?

Might give that a try.

Worth mentioning the light hasn't come back on in the last several days.

No, despite it staying off for over a week and 8 hard passes at the drag strip without it returning, it returned today after I fueled up and started the car. Same code. Very confusing.

Another update...I'm really starting to think this could be related to pulling the F51 fuse to disable the NPP valves.

I know that historically this has not been an issue for anyone with previous year models but I'm wondering with all the electronic changes in the car in 2019 due to the new architecture in use (what I think I've read anyway), if there is now an intermittent fault code than can be thrown from this.

The reason I say so is that this is a fault that only seems to be thrown on startup, when the valves would be closing shortly after start in Touring mode only...because although I haven't absolutely confirmed it yet, it seems to only occur when the car starts in Touring mode vs when I leave it in Sport. The car will hold the Sport mode across restarts but if it's in Touring or Track mode, the next start will be in Touring mode (Track mode is not persistent like Sport is in other words).

I will continue investigating and then see if replacing the NPP fuse resolves it.

I wonder if anyone else with a 2019 has pulled the fuse and reported the same code issue?
